Two undefeated Baltimore Boxers remained undefeated with victories tonight on the Baltimore Pro Boxing card at Martin's West in Woodlawn, MD.
In the main event, middleweight Cecil "AK-47" McCalla scored an eight-round majority decision over a very tough John "No Mercy" Mackey of Montgomery, AL by way of Washington, DC. McCalla stayed in motion on the outside and landed punches. Mackey tried to come forward and was successful at times with his aggression, but didn't seem to be forceful enough. Judge Don Risher saw the draw at 76-76, but judges Kenny Chevalier and John Gradowski scored the bout for McCalla at 78-75 and 78-74 respectively. BATB scored the bout 77-75 for McCalla.
McCalla is now 7-0, two KO's while Mackey falls to 10-3-1, five KO's.
The co-feature saw welterweight James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson keep his perfect record intact with an impressive second-round TKO over Dwayne "Diesel" Shelton of Bumpass, VA. Stevenson was all over Shelton from the opening bell as his offense was solid. In the second round, Stevenson dropped Shelton with a left hand and finished him off shortly after that. The bout was stopped at 2:33 of the second round.
Stevenson rises to 8-0, eight KO's while Shelton loses for the first time in his pro career and he is 2-1.
Two Beltway Boxers made successful pro debuts on this card. Baltimore cruiserweight Steve "Show Stealer" Wheeler won by second-round disqualification over Kareem "The Dream" Wilson (0-3) of DC. Early in the second, Wheeler and Wilson got into a clinch and Wilson started raining rabbit punches on the back of Wheeler's neck. Without a previous warning, referee John Gradowski stopped the bout and disqualified Wilson at 18 seconds of the round.
Also Maurice Byarm, now fighting out of DC, made an impressive pro debut stopping Baltimore's Hanibal Otey at 2:02 of the third round. Byarm showed power with both hands as he dominated Otey throughout the contest. Otey is 1-2.
By the way, Byarm, a native of Philadelphia, PA, is the son of 1980's cruiserweight Lionel "The Boiler" Byarm who was the opponent for Evander Holyfield in Holyfield's pro debut at Madison Square Garden in New York in November of 1984. Holyfield won by six-round unanimous decision.
In the opening bout, Kevin "The Journeyman" Johnson of Baltimore won by third-round TKO over Ellicott City, MD's Robert "Mack Attack" McConnell. Johnson didn't land a lot of punches but he threw a solid right hand that dropped McConnell. After McConnell beat the count, referee Gradowski thought McConnell could not continue. The bout was stopped at 40 seconds of the third.
Johnson is now 3-1, two KO's while McConnell falls to 4-3, two KO's.

I'D LIKE TO THANK MY TEAM (UPTON) AND THE SPARRING AND MENTORING THAT I GOT FROM MARTIN WRIGHT FOR THIS FIGHT. "EASY WORK", LOL.....
-CECIL MCCALLA.
Please Cecil handled his business. WHoever made that last comment's a hater.
all men please identify your self
coach kenny upton
It was very controversial. I thought Mackey won the fight. Imagine that, Kenny Cheavlier had the hometown guy winning the fight! Pat Pannella, get an F/N clue! Kenny Chevalier must go!
Mackey won IMO but McCalla is a very good fighter as well & certainly didn't get his ass kicked. I am noticing Chevalier on the wrong side of some VERY controversial calls... both reffing & judging. No disrespect to anyone, just my opinion.
Bo
I saw the fight and it was close - although I thought Mackey won, albeit slightly.
good work stevenson
Not just you BO. I have also have seen him on the questionable side of calls. If you come to fight in that city and he's on your watch, you BETTER KNOCK YOU OPPONENT OUT or you get added to all the notches in Chevaliers belt.
He's just doing what Pannella tells him to do.
No he's not. Panella's cool. I have seen both at lots of fights. Think his integrity is impeccable.
I don't know, I used to think Pannella was a straight guy too but there have been TOO many hometown decisions and judging snafus which ALWAYS benefit the hometown fighter in which Kenny Chevalier is involved. Pannella runs the whole show and therefore he is responsible for those underneath him.
Digital, I wish you would do some old school muckraking on Kenny Chevalier, Pat Pannella, and the Baltimore Boxing Commission.
We know about Mackey vs. McCalla, Chevalier had it big for McCalla. We know what Chevalier did in the Rivera-Nicklow fight. We know how Chevalier had the Tucker-Thompson fight. Those are just recent examples. If you could go back two years you will see how corrupt, crooked, and biased Kenny Chevalier is. And by extension, Pat Pannella. Pat runs the show, he is responsible! You want to do something to give your boxing program credibility Pannella? Get rid of Kenny Chevalier!
Joe Hensley stop crying. Kenny is a good ref and judge.
Yeah right. Kenny mostly seems to do this with the Baltimore fights, esp Jake's fights. Digital, why don't you start a poll
Kenny is biased
Kenny is not biased.
Let the public weigh in on this. I would wager it's not just a couple of people that see this.
Lets set the record straight, you can try to compare the Rivera vs Nicklow with the McCalla vs Mackey all you want, but the whole boxing world know the TRUE! MUCH RESPECT to John Mackey & his camp, but if you really watch the fight Cecil out scored Mackey from the 1st rd. to the 8th rd. Mackey is a very experience smart Fighter but Cecil was SMARTER that night, he fought his fight & was SUCCESSFUL with it! So give the MAN his Props! He worked hard to prepare for this fight & it payed off! RESPESCT IS EARN NOT GIVING, HE EARN IT FROM MACKEY THAT NIGHT! CECIL'S MANAGER TANK!
This website is full of a bunch of whinning azz babys from VA. the dont ever criticise the crooked stuff that beninfits them (example Nicklow-Rivera 2).
just stop crying
I haven't even commented on this thread, but since you threw my name in there I will. Pat Pannella is a great boxing commissioner, one of the top two I have ever dealt with. In my experience Kenny Chevalier has not been a good referee or judge. I was not at the Mackey-McCalla fight but I heard it was a great fight fought at a high level of skill with fighters who had two different styles. Mackey pressed forward the whole night and McCalla boxed. It can be a difficult thing to judge a fight like that. I have heard that the fight was close. A boxing trainer I know who was at the fight said Mackey was robbed. Another trainer I know said the fight could have gone either way. When I judge fights I don't necessarily pay attention to who is coming forward and who is not. I look at who is landing the clean, effective punches and who is controlling the fight. Just because a guy is coming forward doesn't mean he's winning the fight. The guy moving around or going backward is probably could be setting a trap for the advancing boxer. He could be making his opponent move forward and letting him run in to shots. He could be making the guy miss and making him pay. This isn't a dog fight, it's the sweet science. There are an awful lot of subtle things going on in that ring. If the advancing guy is not landing anything and he's getting outpunched three to one, you know who has to be winning. That's exactly what happened in the second Rivera Nicklow fight. As good as Nicklow is he just couldn't hit George and if you can't hit someone, you can't beat them. Maybe that's what happened with McCalla and Mackey. I would like to see the fight, I heard it was a great one!
That last comment was by me, Joe Hensley. This is the only comment I have posted on this thread regardless of what TP says.
the cecil and mackey fight was just
like the hagler,ray leonard,fight
so many people thought hagler won
but ray out pointed him just like
cecil did mackey.

local boxing fan
keep sleeping james
THe bald guy with the beard is Coach Kenny, a class A guy & trainer.
No doubt Cecil is a good fighter and had a very good coaching staffs. But I think Mackey won the fight by 5rds to 2 and 1 draw. Thats just how I saw it.
5 rounds, what fight was you watching Bro, Cecil Punch count out score Mackey from the 1st rd. to the 8th rd. You know why cause thats what we train for & i counted them on my counter each round. Mackey was the aggresser but he did not throw or land more punches than McCalla! Mackey caught Cecil with some good clean shoots doing the Fight but Cecil took them & counter with a 4 or 5 piece, snapping Mackey Head back plenty of times in the fight! Cecil was sharper & faster & in GREAT SHAPE for this Fight! Mackey tried to set traps for Cecil but he was a lil too smart for that! Once again MUCH RESPECT to JOHN MACKEY & HIS CAMP BUT HE KNOW IN HIS HEART WHO WON THE FIGHT! CECIL'S MANAGER "TANK"
the bald guy with the facial hair
in McCalla's corner is the dad of
the little girl they call killerbee
you can see her on youtube
just search mia killerbee
Hey Tank,
Yes I think Cecil is a very good fighter but I and more than half of the people who was there that night thinks Mackey had won the fight. Since you are so confident that your man had won it, lets just do again. If Cecil wins again then I have nothing more to say. I will come in the ring and raise his hand myself. But this time in mutual site. How about VA? Mackey is from Alabama and Cecil is from MD. What do you think? Just let me know. Han Kim Mackey's manager
Well everybody is entitled to their on opinion, but the Judges saw it different! You know somebody told me that you was gonna make all these excuses about the fight if Mackey lost! Bottom line, we won the fight & we are moving on! When we took this fight we already agreed that we are not fighting HEAVY anymore, Cecil is a Natural Welterweight & thats where we going! We can go back & fourth about the Mackey & McCalla all day long but its not gonna change nothing so FOCUS on your next apponent & not us! WE ARE FOCUS ON MAY 16 CHARLOTTE, NC! CECIL'S MANAGER!
Cecil won the fight STRAIGHT UP!
ok Tank, I hope you guys will be succesful at welter weight. I am serious! But incase you want to do it again, John Mackey has no problem making 154. Good luck.
Han Kim-Mackey's manager
WOW! thats amazing, i was told that Mackey couldnt make 154 for the april 30th Show. But its cool & its good to know that, thats something we might consider! Mackey v.s. McCalla Rematch would be a SELL-OUT CROWD! We keep in touch, you have email?
As you saw that night Mackey is not a big guy. He can easily make 154. So, feel free to make that fight and give me a call. That would be fight of the year. We can fight for one of the title, NABC, NABA-United States, WBC-Americas...
My e-mail is sughan12@hotmail.com
Thank you for your reply. Han Kim
I will even put in on Comcast TV
hey cecil i can't believe you
beat mackey with just six fights
can't wait to see you again.
