Centreville, VA Featherweight Makes Pro Debut to Knock Out Cancer and Aid Stricken Daughter!

Win or lose, Centreville, VA featherweight "Tattoo" Tom Mitchell will probably make one of the most meaningful pro debuts in the area this year on the Saturday, November 1 card at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. For Mitchell, a single father of six children, is fighting not only for himself, but he is also fighting for children who are fighting cancer..including his 18-year-old daughter, Shayla.

Shayla Mitchell was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin's Disease in July of 2007. Since that time, she has battled chemotherapy treatments, radiation therapy and four heart surgeries. She has gained support from her father, who encourages her to keep fighting. Tom Mitchell, a contractor by trade, decided to put that support into action by become a pro boxer.

Mitchell will take on Ashburn, VA's Yieta Johnson (0-2) in a four-round contest. Mitchell will donate all of his purse/earnings to the Growing Hope Foundation, an organization that has provided financial support and outpatient care to the Mitchell Family. ICE Promotions will donate one-third of Mitchell's personal ticket sales to the Growing Hope Foundation. The money raised will benefit the organization’s outreach and family support programs for children battling cancer.
So far, Mitchell has sold $10,000 worth of tickets.
