Update on 'Magnificent May'!

Here is an update on the cards for the “Magnificent May Along the Beltway:”

The weekend of May 11-12 should be called “Rematch Weekend.”

On Friday, May 11 at DuBurns Arena, there will be three rematches on the Baltimore Pro Boxing card. The main event will be the rematch of undefeated boxers as Pasadena, MD junior middleweight Jessie “The Beast” Nicklow (9-0-1, three KO’s) will take on Morgantown, WVA’s Matt “The Bull” Berkshire (8-0-1, three KO’s) in another six-round encounter. The first bout on March 10 in Pikesville did not get out of the first round before the two men butted heads and Berkshire suffered a cut over his right eye.

Also on the card, undefeated Baltimore super middleweight “The Golden Greek” Elias Bouloubassis will take on Chris Cook of York, SC in a four-round rematch of a bout that took place December 7 in Pikesville. Bouloubassis (1-0-2, one KO) is looking for a result that would be similar to his rematch victory over Vincent Robbins on the March 10 Pikesville card. Bouloubassis knocked out Robbins in just 15 seconds. Cook has not fought since the December 7 bout in Pikesville.

And there will be a rematch between Baltimore area light heavyweights Henry “Hurricane” Mayes and Nick “Flash” Collins. Mayes (5-2, four KO’s) won the first bout on March 24, 2006 in Pikesville, scoring a second-round TKO over Collins (2-2, two KO’s). Both men have struggled since the last contest; Mayes is winless in his last three bouts (0-2, one NC) while Collins his last bout in February.

Then on Saturday, May 12 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA, Great Falls, VA junior middleweight Jimmy Lange will battle Fontaine Cabell of Staten Island, NY once again for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Junior Middleweight title.

The two men fought to a 12-round draw on December 9 at the Patriot Center and have not fought since that night. Lange is 27-3-2, 19 KO’s while Cabell is 22-6-2, 17 KO’s.

The co-feature will match Smithsburg, MD lightweight Dean “Pit Bull” White against Damian Fuller of Detroit, MI in a 10-round bout. White (14-6-1, seven KO’s) has lost two of his last three in tough battles against Monty Meza-Clay and Verquan Kimbrough. However, White won his last battle at the Patriot Center on December 9, scoring an eight-round unanimous decision over Dorin Spivey. Fuller (27-4-1, 12 KO’s) is unbeaten in his last seven bouts (6-0-1, two KO’s).

In another interesting matchup, Alexandria, VA junior welterweight Jaime “The Punisher” Palma will take on Philadelphia, PA’s Lenny DeVictoria in a 10-round bout. Palma (11-10-1, two KO’s) has won four straight bouts to put his record over .500. DeVictoria (8-8, two KO’s) has lost five in a row.

One weekend later on Friday, May 18, Keystone Boxing will have a card at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD. Undefeated Baltimore, MD welterweight Tim Coleman (9-0, two KO’s) will headline the card against an opponent to be determined.

Two heavyweight bouts have been announced for this card. Undefeated “Big” Phill Brown of Upper Marlboro, MD (5-0, three KO’s) will take on Capitol Heights, MD’s Wayne “Hammerhead” Hampton (5-4, three KO’s) and Paul Tillery of Clinton, MD (1-2) will take on Scott “Duke” Buchanan of DC (1-0, one KO).

After the May 25 card in DC, there will also be cards on Thursday, May 31 at Michael’s Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD and Saturday, June 9 at ABC Sports Complex in Springfield, VA. More information on those cards by the end of the week.
