Thompson-Castillo May 25 at the DC Armory!

What some of you have already said seems to be true. Fightnews.com is reporting that DC heavyweight Tony "The Tiger" Thompson will take on Miami, FL's Elieser Castillo in the main event on Friday, May 25 at the DC Armory.

Thompson will come into the contest with a record of 29-1, 17 KO's. Thompson has won 25 straight bouts and is ranked #3 in the world by the WBC, #6 by the WBO, #11 by the IBF and #12 by the WBA.

Castillo, a native of Havana, Cuba, is 29-5-2, 16 KO's and has won his last three, including a 10-round unanimous decision over veteran Lenzie Morgan on March 30 in Alexandria, LA. Castillo lost two in a row prior to his current winning streak, including a 12-round majority decision loss to DaVarryl Williamson in April of 2004.

I just read on eastside boxing that krasniqui is rumored to be fighting thompson in germany on july 14 it saids thompson is getting a sweet 250 thousand...sweet...is he still fighting in May?

As of now, yes, Thompson will be fighting on May 25. Frankly I don't see that changing.

There has been talk about a bout between Thompson and Krasnigi for awhile now and Luan has always backed out and the bout has always been in Germany, his home country.

Noticing that some of Eastside's news is rather dated, that may be an old article.

Having said that, the bout could still be a possibility and it is also feasible that, depending on the May 25 outcome, Thompson could take both bouts. I will double check with Thompson's folks and get back to you.

The Tony Thompson fight at the D.C. Armory is far from a done deal, judging by the flow of mixed messages I'm getting. See my story in the Post tomorrow. -- J.S.

I heard that show is in trouble with Thompson pulling out. The Promoter is still looking to do the show on ESPN in D.C.

Is there any more news about this card or tickets?

Anthony Peterson will be defending his NABO Lightweight title in the main event while Lamont will be in the co-feature.

I should know something about their opponents by the end of the week.

You can call Ticketmaster to purchase tickets or call Greg McCormick of the Peake Marwick Group at 202-606-9869.

Will we get the Thompson-Castillo fight later?

I think that depends on one of two scenarios taking place:

1. Thompson loses to Krasniqi and takes on Castillo in hopes of bouncing back into title contention.

2. Thompson beats Krasniqi then wins a world title and gives Castillo a title shot.

Other than one of those two situations, it would make no sense at this stage to fight Castillo.
