Buchanan Advances in Super Middleweight Tournament!

Capitol Heights, MD super middleweight Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan easily advanced to the semi-finals of the ShoBox Super Middleweight Tournament with a 10-round unanimous decision over Lucas Green-Arias of Costa Rica.

Despite fighting with an injured hand, Buchanan was never in trouble throughout the contest as he used an inspired jab to earn the victory. Buchanan is now 14-0, 11 KO's and he is scheduled to face Jean Paul Mendy in the next round on October 6 in Santa Ynez, CA. Mendy stopped Dallas Vargas in the first round.

I say "scheduled" because ShoBox is reporting that Buchanan had to go to the hospital to get his hand x-rayed. If he can't go in October, then Green-Arias -- despite losing -- will go into the semi-finals.

Quick analysis: I thought ShoBox commentators Nick Charles and Steve Farhood were unduly critical of both fighters. One of the things that they overlooked about Buchanan is that he has a good chin. Green-Arias didn't hit Buchanan much during the bout but the times he did, Buchanan shook them off.

Buchanan's showboating towards the end did not go over well with the Las Vegas faithful and that may have led to the judge's scores being closer than they probably should have been. Overall, I thought Buchanan fought very well and let's hope the hand injury isn't too serious.

A few things. 1st Congrats to Poo for the victory. 2nd Poo has a long way to go in order to win over a new fan base other than the beltway supporters. The showboating did not go over well with the vegas crowd and for this to be his first bout of the tournament - not impressed. Especially in comparison to Mendy. Can he handle Mendy on a healthy day - I don't think so because this guy keeps coming. Poo is dancing on the big stage now and need to make the transition. It's obvious he controls the corner and not his trainers. Maybe he wrapped his own hands last Friday resulting in the injury.

Poo could not wrap childs hands. How could he possibly wrap his own. He is lucky he can tie his own shoes. Im glad he kept his day job, he might not fight again in this tournament. I seen him working yesterday at The Popeyes on Marlboro Pike. at least he does got a job, not like most of you knuckle heads

Shelly Greedson.

This is Mighty Mouse the IBF featherweight champ of the world. I dont understant your comments about Sugar Poor. The guy showed me alot of heart and maybe unlike you, i box and I understand what it is like to not even hurt your hand let alone brake it and still try to fight. That showed me heart that alot of guys dont have that and with that is success alone. Critics are normally people that cant do what you can do so they criticize so give him an opportunity before you judge him !!!!!!!!

Amen!!! Tell em' Mouse. Why do people seem to hate on Mr. Hinton's fighters so much?

Congrats Poo! I'd like to see what your right hand can do. You basically jabbed all night and won the fight with one hand. You may need that right hand if you continue to advance. I'll be watching and cheering you on.
