WBO Reinstates Crews-Dezurn As Super Middleweight Champion After Jimenez Gets Stripped!

Baltimore, MD's "Heavy-Hitting Diva" Franchon Crews-Dezurn has been reinstated by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) as its Super Middleweight champion after the governing body stripped Mexico City, Mexico's Alejandra Jimenez of the title after failing to show cause after she tested positive for a banned substance.

On January 11th, Jimenez defeated Crews-Dezurn by 10-round split decision in San Antonio, TX to win the WBO and WBC Super Middleweight titles. The Texas Boxing Commission would change the bout's ruling to a No-Decision.  The Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) collected a test sample from Jimenez the day before the fight that tested positive for the banned substance Stanazol. Jimenez would be suspended by the Texas Commission for 90 days, the WBC would suspend her title reign and the WBO would put her on the clock.

Jimenez would opt to have her "B" sample tested instead of going through a formal hearing.  The "B" sample also tested positive.  Crews-Dezurn produced clean samples throughout the entire process.

Having exhausted all options, the WBO would come back with the following ruling:

“Having this Committee examined and reviews the applicable rules and regulations, having granted all parties substantial due process, having confirmed with the Texas Licensing and Regulation Department, an administrative regulatory body with jurisdiction over the official bout result and imposed suspension, and having considered petitioner’s request, this Committee rules as follows,” noted Luis Batista-Salas, chairman of the WBO Championship Committee. “NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the WBO World Championship Committee according to the WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests as follows:

“The WBO World Championship Committee hereby strips Ms. Alejandra Jimenez of her WBO Female Super Middleweight Championship Title and it reinstates WBO Female Participant Ms. Franchon Crews-Dezurn as the official WBO Female Super Middleweight Champion.”
