A host of local amateurs were successful on the first day of the USA Boxing National Championships being held this week in Salt Lake City, UT.
Two boxers from Alexandria, VA won their first-round bouts during the evening session. Amelia Moore won a split decision over Ariele Davis of Metairie, LA at the Elite Female 132 pounds division. Her gym mate, Troy Isley, advanced to the next round of the Elite Male 165 pound bracket with a unanimous decision over Kahshad Elliott of Plainfield, NJ.
During the morning session, Jalil Hackett of Washington, DC won his bout in the Junior Male 132 pound division with a split decision over Danilo Diez of Cape Coral, FL.
In the Bantam Male 65 Pound class, Brandon Chestnut of Bowie, MD won a unanimous decision over Edgar Castro of Phoenix, AZ while Jeremiah Jimason of Upper Marlboro, MD advanced with a split decision win over Javen Lopez of Waianae, HI.
The USA National Championships continued until Saturday, December 8th.
