Undefeated Bethesda, MD super flyweight Alexandru "Spartan" Marin returns to action as he has been added to the Ponytail Promotions card on Saturday, April 14th at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, VA. Marin will take on veteran Mike Ruiz, Jr. of Fresno, CA in a 10-round contest for the vacant USBO Super Flyweight championship.
Marin, a native of Iasi, Romania (15-0, 10 KO's), last fought on November 4th and won a dominant eight-round unanimous decision over Juan Gabriel Medina in Ashburn, VA. Marin goes for his second regional title in his career. Marin captured the IBO International Bantamweight title with a third-round TKO of Johnny Determan in June of 2016 in Springfield, VA. This will be Marin's first scheduled 10-round contest.
Ruiz (12-4-3, four KO's) is unbeaten in his last five contests with three wins and two draws. Ruiz is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Jonathan Arturo Torres on September 23rd in Fresno. Ruiz makes his fourth attempt at a regional title, having lost in three previous tries.
