Boxing Returns To DC's Sphinx Club July 15th!

There will be a GQ Promotions card coming to the Sphinx Club in Washington, DC on Saturday, July 15th.  The "GQ" in GQ Promotions is undefeated Montgomery Village, MD welterweight Gerome Quigley who will be in the main event challenging  Luis Hernandez of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico  in a 10-round bout for the vacant USBO Welterweight title.

Quigley (16-0, 15 KO's) last fought on March 25th and scored a fourth-round TKO over Dennis Sharpe at the University of the District of Columbia Physical Activities Center in DC.  Hernandez (16-4, nine KO's) broke a two-bout losing streak with a first-round TKO over the debuting Roman Jardley Juarez Castro on March 18th in Gusave, Sinaloa, Mexico. Hernandez has fought solid competition in recent bouts including undefeated boxers Rashidi Ellis and US Olympian Terrell Gausha.

There are two six-round bouts scheduled for this card.  Bowie, MD cruiserweight Luther "Lights Out" Smith will face Karinn Davis of Jackson, MI.  Smith (8-1, seven KO's) made a brief return to the heavyweight division in his last outing and scored a third-round TKO over Carlos Black on the March 25th UDC card.  In his last cruiserweight bout, Smith scored a crushing first-round knockout over previously undefeated Darnell Pierce on February 11th in Fort Washington, MD.  Davis (2-6, two KO's) returns to the ring for the first time since February of 2016 and will try to break a two-bout losing streak. 

Greenbelt, MD cruiserweight "The Vanilla Gorilla" Sam Crossed enters the six-round level of the sport for the first time as he battles James Jones of Nashville, TN.  Crossed (5-0, three KO's) stopped Michael Tillery in the second round in his last outing on October 19th in Charlotte, NC.  Jones (4-10, three KO's) will be trying to extend a two-bout winning streak.  In his last outing, Jones knocked out Aaron Shrewsbury in the third round on April 29th in Glenville, WVA.  Jones is 0-3 against Beltway Boxers.  Jones previously lost by knockout to Greg Newby and Nick Kisner and dropped a four-round unanimous decision to Shaborn Ryals.

In four-round bouts, The Bell Twins -- Jason and Justin of District Heights, MD -- return to action. Jason Bell (2-0, one KO) will take on the debuting Dameron Kirby.  Bell won a four-round unanimous decision over George Sheppard on April 29th in Springfield, VA.

Justin Bell (1-0) made his pro debut on the last GQ Promotions card on March 25th at UDC and won a four-round unanimous decision over Greg Hackett.  Bell will battle Erik Plumeri of Lockport, NY (0-4-1).  Plumeri last fought on March 18th and lost by second-round TKO to Jose Rodriguez, Jr. in Erie, PA.

Rockville, MD middleweight Francisco Bustos returns to action for the first time in more than a year when he faces Corwin Farmer of North Carolina in a four-rounder.  The undefeated Bustos (5-0, three KO's) has not fought since knocking out Cory Macon in the first round in June of 2016 in Springfield, VA.  Farmer (1-1) won a four-round unanimous decision over Paul Holley on January 14th in Macon, GA.

Also on the card, Fort Washington, MD super middleweight Leo Alcanera will face off with George Sheppard of Newport News, VA in a four-round contest.  Alcanera (1-0) made his pro debut on the March 25th card at UDC and won a four-round unanimous decision over Alex Rojas.  Sheppard (0-1) returns to the ring for the first time since losing his pro debut to Jason Bell on April 29th.

Two Beltway Boxers will make their pro debuts on this card -- Lightweight Dante Cox of Laurel, MD and super welterweight Rashad Kirkpatrick of Waldorf, MD.  Cox will face Archie Weah of Norcross, GA by way of Monrovia, Liberia.  Weah (1-7) has lost his last six contests.  Kirkpatrick will face the equally debuting Martegus Martin.
