Five Locals Remain In National Golden Gloves Competition In Louisiana!

As they head into the quarterfinals of the 2017 National Golden Gloves at the Cajundome in Lafayette, LA, five DC Region boxers remain in the competition.

Genc Pllana of Hagerstown, MD won his second bout in the 178-pound division with a 5-0 win over Derick Miller of Detroit.

Keyshawn Davis of Alexandria, VA advanced with a 5-0 victory over Yamil Ortiz-Carrillo of Pennsylvania at 132 pounds.  Meanwhile, Javon Campbell of Raleigh, NC, won his first bout of the 123-pound competition on Wednesday with a 5-0 victory over Aridis Duran of NY. 

At 141 Pounds, Wilfredo Avelar of Germantown, MD moved into the next round with a 3-2 decision over Efren Nieves of the New England region.  Keeshawn Williams of DC won his second contest at 152 pounds with a 3-2 win over Robert Mumford of Toledo, OH.

In other results, Steven Kelly of Fayetteville, NC lost his bid at 201 pounds by first-round TKO to Owen Saldana of Chicago, IL.  At 108 pounds, Julius White of DC lost a 5-0 decision to Salaam Gonzales of the Colorado-New Mexico Region. Rasheed Wright of DC dropped a 3-2 decision to Javionte Gaddy of Toledo at 114 Pounds.  Also, Malik Titus of Baltimore, MD lost a 5-0 decision at 201+ pounds to Jarod Anderson of Toledo.
