Upper Marlboro, MD super featherweight Lamont Roach, Jr. remained undefeated with a dominating eight-round unanimous decision win over Jose Arturo Esquivel of Chihuahua, Mexico this afternoon at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The bout was on the undercard of tonight's pay-per-view contest between Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan.
Roach battered Esquivel for the entire contest landing some crushing shots to the head and body. By the seventh round, Esquivel's left eye had completely closed. Roach, however, lost a point during the bout for low blows. All three judges scored the bout 79-72.
"I took the fight from him early," Roach, Jr. told Ron Harris of the Prince George's Sentinel. "He didn't want to fight after the first round. That's what I learned the most from this fight. To be ready from the start. I am also learning to relax and throw all of my punches within the game plan."
Roach is now 11-0, three KO's while Esquivel falls to 9-5, two KO's.
