Baltimore, MD lightweight Gervonta "Tank" Davis worked for the longest time in one bout as he knocked out a very game Luis Sanchez of Cancun, Mexico in the ninth round Friday night at the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV. The bout was televised by Spike TV.
With his promoter, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. looking on from ringside, Davis put his right jab in the freezer and almost exclusively went for the power shots and counter left hands. Sanchez stayed with Davis early although he never had Davis in any real difficulty.
However, by the eighth round, Davis was able to break Sanchez down. Davis knocked Sanchez to the canvas with a solid left uppercut. In the ninth, Davis landed a vicious left uppercut that sent Sanchez face first to the canvas. Referee Kenny Bayless waived the bout off at 2:05 of the round.
Davis remains undefeated at 14-0, 13 KO's. Sanchez's record falls to 17-5-1, five KO's.
