Congratulations to Oxon Hill, MD light welterweight Tyrek Irby who claimed one of the first berths to the US Olympic Trials by winning a championship contest at the WSB and World Championship Team Trials in Chattanooga, TN Friday night.
Irby, who trains out of the Headbangers Gym in DC, defeated Tra-Kwon Pettis of Atlanta, GA by a 2-1 decision. The win gives Irby one of the first invitations to the Olympic Team Trials and also gives him an opportunity to participate in the World Series of Boxing representing the United States and also an opportunity to compete in the 2015 World Championships.
