Russell Brothers Reach Finals Of National Golden Gloves!

The Russell Brothers are just one step away from making local and national history at the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Championships in Las Vegas, NV.

BATB has learned that both Gary Antonio and Gary Antuanne Russell scored victories Friday that move them into the finals of the 123 and 141 pound divisions, respectively.  Antonio won a close 3-2 decision over Hector Tanajara of Texas while Antuanne captured a 4-1 decision over Arthur Porter of Toledo.

To recap the historical significance:  Antonio Russell is looking to be just the third Beltway Boxer in local history to win two national Golden Gloves titles (joining Sugar Ray Leonard and Dana Rucker).  Also, Russell looks to join Leonard as the only locals to win back-to-back titles.

Antuanne is looking to make national history as he will vie to be the fourth member of the Russell family to win a National Golden Gloves title.

We also should recognize Marquis Moore who is a native of Fort Washington, MD who is stationed in the US Army at Fort Carson, CO and competing out of the Colorado-New Mexico region. Moore has advanced to the 165 Pound championship and he is looking to win his second consecutive national Golden Gloves title.
