It's already been a good weekend for Golden Boy Promotions. Of course, they have the card in DC on Saturday. Now comes word that Golden Boy has won a purse bid to promote a title bout for the vacant WBO Featherweight title between Capitol Heights, MD's "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. and Vasyl Lomanchenko.
Golden Boy outbid Top Rank by a mere $2,500 ($1,052,000 to $1,050,000) to win the right to promote the contest. WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel told Lem Satterfield that the bout will be held on June 21 at a venue in Los Angeles, CA.

Citing rule No. 13 in the WBO guidlines pertaining to purse bids for a vacant title, President Paco Valcarcel informed RingTV.com that Lomachenko will receive $631,350 (60 percent) compared to $420,900 (40 percent) for Russell, career-highs for both boxers.

The boxer going to the opponent's home country gets the lion's share of the purse according to the WBO.
