BATB has learned that Emmanuel "Tranzforma" Taylor's bout against Victor Cayo on Friday, March 8 in Atlantic City, NJ is now an IBF elimination bout that could have interesting long-range possibilities for the Beltway.
A win for the Edgewood, MD native Taylor in his ESPN2-televised junior welterweight bout would put him closer in line to face the winner of the proposed May 18 IBF title bout between champion Lamont Peterson and challenger Lucas Mathyesse. Apparently, a win here would put Taylor in position to fight for the number one spot.
Looking hopefully down the road, if both Peterson wins in May and Taylor gets to be the number one contender, it could mark the first time two Beltway Boxers would battle for a world title since Keith Holmes defended his WBC Middleweight title against Andrew Council on August 24, 1999 at MCI (now Verizon) Center in DC.
By the way, the Peterson-Matthyesse bout looks like it will also be in Atlantic City.

Looks to me like the IBF is just trying to get some sanctioning fee money. But hey, I guess one of them could eventually fight for the title, after about three more eliminators.
