Thompson Title Shot Possibly in July; DC a Long Shot To Get Bout!

ESPN.com's Dan Rafael is reporting that the mandatory world heavyweight title shot for DC's Tony "The Tiger" Thompson against world champion Wladimir Klitschko might take place on July 7. This is what Klitschko's manager Bernd Boente is saying.

Rafael adds, however, that both sides are still in negotiation and there is a purse bid slated for Tuesday if the two sides don't agree on the contract. Also, Rafael is reporting that Thompson's promoter, Dan Goossen is interested in bringing the bout to DC, but that would be a long shot. The bout would more than likely be broadcast on the Epix Cable network.

If somehow, some way, that bout would come to Washington, it could make for a very interesting two weeks. Golden Boy is proposing a boxing card at the Verizon Center on June 30 which would be followed by the Klitschko-Thompson rematch in DC on July 7. I don't know if enough stars could align for that to take place!
