A number of Beltway Boxers will be on the Squared Circle Promotions card on Saturday, October 15 at the Ransom Civic Center in Ransom, WVA.
Headlining the card will be Bedford, VA's Scott "Cujo" Sigmon who will be in a 10-round light heavyweight contest against "The British Assassin" Jimmy Campbell of Indianapolis, IN by way of London, England.
Sigmon (18-3, nine KO's) returns to action quickly after scoring an eight-round TKO against Joe Park on October 1 in Greensboro, NC. Sigmon is on a two-bout winning streak after suffering a loss in July. This will be Sigmon's seventh bout in 2011.
Campbell (11-5, eight KO's) will try to reverse a three-bout losing streak in this contest. Campbell faced three straight undefeated boxers in his last three outings -- Daniel Jacobs, Travis Loveless and Anthony Dirrell -- and was knocked out in all three bouts.
The co-feature has undefeated Baltimore, MD cruiserweight "Slick" Nick Kisner in a six-round bout that will be for a regional title. Kisner (10-0-1, five KO's) will take on Jason "The Mason" Pauley of Cabin Creek, WVA (5-5, one KO).
Kisner last fought on August 19 at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore and won a four-round unanimous decision over Rayshawn Myers. Pauley has lost five bouts in a row after winning his first five.
In another six-round contest, Columbia, MD middleweight Tony "Mo Better" Jeter will face Joey "Mundo" Ortega of Lowell, MA. Jeter (11-2-1, nine KO's) won a six-round unanimous decision over Mike McFail on March 12 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. Ortega (3-21, one KO) has lost five in a row including knockout losses to Beltway Boxers Cecil McCalla and Emmanuel Taylor.
In four-round bouts, Baltimore junior welterweight Kevin Womack makes his pro debut against Shawn Pyles of Raleigh, NC (0-3). Junior middleweight Mischa "The Assassin" Christensen of Frederick, MD (3-1, one KO) battles Duane King of Reidsville, NC (3-2, one KO). Also, "Money" Mike Sawyer of Falls Church, VA (4-2, two KO's) will be in a light heavyweight contest against Danville, VA's Terrence Watson (0-8) and Baltimore middleweight Justin Blackwell (0-1) looks for his first win against Stephen Franklin of Martinsburg, WVA (0-6).
There may also be a heavyweight bout involving Baltimore's Riley Brooks (1-2-1).

Jeter's oppenent is 3-21? No wonder Jeter has a reputation of being the most risk-averse boxer in the area.
these are very pitiful match ups! peopl amaze me. I understand what padding a record is about. But youre supposed to be progressing as a fighter during that process as well. Not staying tranquil or going backwards.

that's how it is with a lot of fighters here. They don't want to take any risk but they act like they're championship level boxers.
I'd rather make matches with two 3-9 guys than have a 15-1 fight a 3-9. Ridiculous.
The fighters and managers say they'll sell tickets or put people in the seats but they won't fight anyone decent. The promoters go for it so they don't have to come out of their pocket. As a result the public gets a BS card.
When a legit matchmaker tries to make a competitive card, he gets push back from the fighters and promoters. Some wanna be matchmakers will try to make ANY bout just to be in the game.
So now we have all these recycled fighters...nothing new after all these years.
Robert DaLuz, Ariel Espinal, type of guys over and over. But as long as people will pay for garbage, promoters will keep pushing garbage.
I like Kevin Womack, a lanky fighter who reminds me a bit of Tommy Hearns. Be interesting to see if he can punch. Had a very bad habit of keeping his hands low in amatuers and if its not fixed his career will be short. Good luck Kevin.
Jeter, what a joke! The guy has been knocked silly 4 of last 5 fights. He gripes about MD commission bc they wont approve this stuff, but there are safety issues. Jeter is a step up from beating up hobos in allys to show what a tough guy he is, its shameful. He's talking about Nicklow, but will NEVER conjure up the heart to fight him.

I guess it's good that someone is promoting a show but it's obvious that these matches are one sided.People for the most part show up at these shows to shoot the shit with all the people they know.It surely coulden't be because these are going to be good fights.Really what is Jeter doing and why do these commissions allow this to continue?
Boogie went to Toledo Ohio for the P.A.L. Boxing Tournment and fought three nites and won the championship and Upton Boxing Center received a team trophy for third place Juan Jenkins
well kevin womack is fighting a paid for 0-3 guy he should be able to knock him out. Jeter will get a ko. everyone except for Christy. That will be a good fight.
Fighters like Ali and Jones had freakish speed and agility, once in a generation talent. Their flaws early in their careers could be made up for with talent, however they took unnecessary shots, and eventually incurred real damage .
Benitez, Mayweather, Pep, Toney leonard, Calzaghe were great defensive fighters who rolled their front shoulder, kept their guard in proper position and avoided punches with great movement. Benitez, Pep and. toney all took slot of shots.
Many of the fighters you speak of were simply awesome offensive talents packing power and a chin to withstand more than their opponents. No one would say Gatti, Hearns, Augustus were good defensive fighters.
Duran, Fraizer, Foreman, Tyson, Arguello, Lamottta, Hopkins, Simon Brown, Blocker, Robinson, Marciano, Louis, Howard davis, Hagler and solo many others fought in traditional postures incurring less punishment than many you name above.
Few can pull off what Ali did, some can do what Toneydoes with the shoulder roll, but if a fighter keeps his Guard close, his hands up, head moving he is simply in a better defensive position and is less likely to incur the amount of punishment over the long run that has damaged Hearns, ali, sweet pea, Gatti,

I don't think Jeter is fighting. As of a few days ago I heard John Terry was supposed to be his opponent but Jeter didn't return a signed contract to the promoter to fight John Terry. John Terry is 3 and 20 and Tony Jeter wouldn't sign a contract to fight him. That tells you all you need to know about Tony Jeter and that everything people are saying about him is true. He's the Tin Man, no heart. He's a coward. He complains to the boxing commission about matchups. All of that criticism is valid.

Guys I'm not a fighter but I play one on TV.
Why on God's Green earth would a fighter who is told to sell tickets in order to fight want to put himself at risk by fighting someone who can be dangerous. Tony Jeter is the one always picked on around here. That ain't fair. There is a vast majority who are told to do the same thing.
If the public wants these guy to step up; then pay for them to step up. As long as these guys are told to sell tickets to cover both sides of the bout then they should fight whoever they want to fight.
As far as John Terry or Joey Ortega, those are the guys that the promoter are trying to force Jeter too fight.
So are they match ups fair and good for boxing no, but when greedy ass promoters are strong arming you then fight who you want.

John Terry is 3 and 20 and "the promoters are trying to force Jeter" to fight these guys? I've never seen Ortega fight but he's only been stopped a few times and that's why Jeter won't fight him. He knows he can't stop him. John Terry would have a real chance to beat Tony and the only way that John loses is by being in awful shape. Unfortunately John is often not in the best of shape but he would be very dangerous against Tony for about a round and a half and that may be enough for John to get the job done. Tony can't stop him either. Both of those guys are good matchups for Tony and he would have a really good chance in those fights. He may win and learn something in doing so. Same with Ken Dunham. It's a competitive fight and Jeter may sharpen up and get better as the result of the fight. The only other veteran fighter in the area that has consistently fought poor competition that I can think of is Perry Ballard and he has received his fair share of justifiable criticism. But at least Perry had an end game and he parlayed his record into good money fights against Jimmy Lange and Hector Camacho. And Tony is a better caliber of fighter than Ballard. Is that what Tony is doing? I guess we will see. He said on Ringside Report that he would fight Nicklow. But here's the problem? Who's going to promote and pay for it? There isn't a real market for that fight. What's Jeter think that fight is worth? Is TV going to buy that fight? I'll answer that one - NO! Does it do a huge gate? Nope, I don't think so. You'd be looking at the typical attendance for this area which is about 350 to 1,000. I'd say Nicklow and Jeter does a similar gate. I couldn't see Jeter making more than $3,000 for that fight. Maybe Tony will get up to 16 and 2, 18 and 2 and get a $30,000 fight in Germany. I don't know. But I do know if he fights guys like Joey Ortega, John Terry, and Ken Dunham on his way to that record, he would go a long way in getting respect in this area. I thought Lawrence Jones was a 50/50 fight for Tony and nobody could help the way that fight ended. Same with Keith Gross. Nobody could criticize that fight. Even McFail was a passable opponent. He fought back and went the distance. John Terry, Joey Ortega, and Ken Dunham are next logical steps in the progression of a career.

I agree with Joe, if John Terry was motivated and conditioned for a fight, he would be dangerous. The guy can punch a little and he can take a punch. Not an easy fight for most.
It sounds like Cujo's opponent might be decent. He better be in good shape because Cujo keeps the pressure on all the way.
i disagree, fighters who usually hold there hands up, r usually alot easier to hit, due to not having as much agility, and being more basic.....Its like Calzaghe said, (When i was dropped by Hopkins and Jones both times i had my hands up. But when i drop my hands i am un hittable.... Every time Jones was dropped he had his hands up. You are more of a target, that cant get away from as much when you hold your hands up. And you are alot more easier to adjust to as well. Put it like this who would you rather fight??? A guy who holds his hands up, and who you can adjust to, or a guy dropping his hands and which you never know where hes coming from. You see things so much better in the ring when you dont have your hands up to your cheeks. Its been proving. And again you never said anything about figters knowing how to roll with there hands down, you were saying if his hands were down. How do you know Womack dont know how to roll with shots?? The best fighters in the world are the quicest guys who keep there guards down, and are smart fighters, they can see and adjust to things so much better, look at Sergio Martinez!!!

On October 1-8, 2011, Coach Calvin Ford from the Upton Boxing Center Recreation and Parks in Baltimore, took six of their boxers to the Police Association League (P.A.L.) Boxing Tournament in Toledo Ohio. The six boxers that attended the tournament were:
Tyriesha Douglas - 2010 National Champion, 2011 P.A.L. Champion
Gervonta "Tank" Davis - 2009, 2010 P.A.L. Champion
Juan "NC State" Jenkins - 2011 Golden Gloves Champion, 2011 P.A.L. Champion
Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson - 2011 National Silver Gloves Champion, 2011 P.A.L. Champion
Corey Perkins - 2009 Gloden Gloves State Champion
Jeremy Trussell - 2010 Golden Gloves State Champion
There were three boxers successful in becoming P.A.L. Champions, Tyriesha Douglas, Juan"NC State" Jenkins and Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson. Tyriesha Douglas fought four times and her championship win qualified her to box off for the 2012 Olympics for female boxers in February 2012, Juan "NC State" Jenkins fought three times and Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson won because of a unopposed champion in his weight class. There is footage and pictures of the fights. Along with the success of the three P.A.L. Champions the Upton Boxing Center Recreation and Parks received for the first time ever a team trophy for third place.
