Williams Battles Tonight in Houston; Attah Fights On Pay-Per-View Saturday in Puerto Rico!

A couple of veteran names from the Beltway will be in action this week. Catonsville, MD cruiserweight "Irish" Glen Williams is a last-minute substitute tonight against undefeated hometown boxer Justin Jones of Houston, TX at the Houston Club.

Williams (7-4-1, five KO's) will be fighting for the second straight time at the Houston Club. Williams won a four-round unanimous decision over Tyrone Jackson on May 19. Jones (12-0, eight KO's) is coming off a second-round TKO over Dustin Nichols on February 12 in Oberlin, LA.

On Saturday, October 1, former world super featherweight contender Daniel "The Prophet" Attah heads to Bayamon, Puerto Rico to challenge former WBO Super Featherweight champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez of Vega Baja, PR for the WBO Inter-Continental Super Featherweight title.

Attah (26-7-1, nine KO's) is a native of Kaleba, Nigeria whose training base has been in Northern Virginia for a number of years. Attah is a former NABO Super Featherweight champion who unsuccessfully challenged Acelino Freitas for the WBA and WBO Super Featherweight titles. Attah is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision win over John Trigg on June 4 in Hollywood, FL.

Martinez (24-1-1, 15 KO's) suffered his only loss in dropping the WBO title to Ricky Burns on September 4, 2010 in Glasgow, Scotland. The bout against Attah will be Martinez's first bout since the loss of the the title he won in March of 2009 from Nicky Cook.

Some Beltway trivia regarding Martinez: He once fought at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD in January of 2005 and won by fifth-round TKO over Mario Lacey.

The bout will be shown on DirectTV Mas and the Dish Network as part of the "Triple Crown III" pay-per-view card headlined by the matchup between Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez and Mike Oliver.

More Beltway trivia- here is the whole card that Martinez fought on at Michaels Eighth Avenue:

Lamont Pearson W Ivan Alvarez UD 8 8
Roman Martinez W Mario Lacey KO 5 6
Anthony Dirrell W Henry Dukes TKO 1 4
Chazz Witherspoon W Yul Witherspoon TKO 2 4
Andre Dirrell W Carlos Jones TKO 4 4
Mike Dietrich W Royphy Solieau UD 4 4

Roman Martinez and Andre Dirrell became world champions. Lamont fought for the world title after winning the USBA belt a couple of times. Chazz Witherspoon and Anthony Dirrell are still trying and sadly Dietrich never got the opportunity.
Quite a good card for the fans.
