Beltway Boxing Fans -- Time to Step Up to the Plate!

One of the top men in the promotion wants it here. Both the boxers want to see the bout here. There is only one part of the equation needed to get the Amir Khan-Lamont Peterson bout in DC -- YOU, the Beltway Boxing Fan!

So the following is for all the Beltway Boxing Fans, especially those who always complain that we don't get quality bouts here. We now have a VERY GOOD opportunity to get a quality card in DC. But to seal this deal, the fans have to step up and want the bout!!

Unlike most situations, we are not fighting against areas with casino money. As of yesterday (according to published reports), DC was competing with Detroit, MI and Montreal, CA for the rights to hold this card. So casino money isn't the big issue here.

Also, the DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission is not completely the same as it was back in 2005 when they sanctioned Kevin McBride-Mike Tyson. There is a good mixture of experienced and new folks on the commission that I believe is capable of handling a card of this magnitude.

Most importantly, everyone principally involved in the bout WANTS the bout to be here. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has publicly said he would like the bout to be in DC. Khan has said he would not mind fighting in DC since he enjoyed his recent visit to the Nation's Capitol. Obviously, Peterson wants it here.

Schaefer has also said that one, maybe two other Beltway Boxers would be added to the card. Friday night's win by Seth Mitchell would free him up to be on this card. There is also a possibility that Gary Russell, Jr. would be on the card as well.

Those are three guys that many Beltway Boxing Fans would want to see perform in the hometown area. For Russell, it would be his FIRST pro bout at home!

So everything seems to be in place for this card to take place in Washington, DC. The rest is up to us--The Beltway Boxing community. Now is not the time to be a naysayer. Let your voice be heard! Golden Boy can be found on Facebook and Twitter at Golden Boy Boxing. Please post (as I have done) saying you want to see Khan-Peterson here in DC!

If you REALLY love Beltway Boxing, now's the time to prove it!

How about Dusty on the card? Does the DC Boxing Commission have an 18 yr old requirement also? I think Harrison would be a great addition on the undercard. Like him or not, he is very marketable being the youngest pro and being that DC is also his home, it only makes sense to add him to the card. Financially it makes sense too because once again, like him or not, the fact that he is only 17 yrs old attracts people, boxing fans and non boxing fans alike.

he is too young, dc md and va require you to be 18.

How about Jimmy Lange on the card?
But guess what? The promoter would pick the opponet and Pappa wouldn't be able to pay him off.

Well it would be a great thing for DC. It can definately help with the revitalization of the sport in the nation's capital. Peterson, Russell Jr, Mitchell all headlining and a nice solid undercard. Snow-Vinson,Lange-LeHoullier, Quarles-Shah, Jeter-Nicklow, Sigmon-Cummings. Wishful think on my end.

Snowe would beat Vinson, Russell, and Aiken on the same night.
None of them could deal with a veteran south paw.

Brian,

Enjoy your posts, however why would you even mention Nicklow/Jeter? Since you are in the business, you know, YOU HAVE TO KNOW, Tony is the tin man, NO HEART. He simply will not fight anyone who hasnt been knocked out several times and has demonstrably shown they have no ability to punch.

The MD commission has fits trying to approve the flat out BUMS Jeter is always trying to fight. So that being the fact, why would you even mention the guy? He is old, never beaten a single fighter with a winning record and had his heart stolen a decade ago. Jessie is a fighter, would rather see him in with Sigmon again.

Well there has been whispers on that fight actually happening. that was my thought process. I also think that he would fight people, if the money were right.

As alot of fighters around here do; you have to pay your own way, so that would be why fighters will only fight a certain level of competition if the are footing the bill.

Jeter isn't the coward that people make him out to be. I can't fault him for not stepping up when people aren't willing to pay fair market value.

I dont think Peterson should fight at home cause that would be an embarrising loss to get KO'd by Khan

Detroit has casinos. I just don't know if they have casino money. They are not destination casinos like in Vegas or Atlantic city, more like Charlestown, WV, where mostly locals go.

fair market value in toni jeters mind is 30,000 to fight somebody decent he will never fight jessie not even for good money you will see

The only thing that will keep Jeter-Nicklow from happening is nobody will pay to put that fight on.

For that fight to happen the budget would have to be at least $15,000 for the fight alone for a 10 rder, maybe more. And for certain there isn't a promoter that would shell out that kind of dough. I think the people will come to see it.

Maybe it can be put on as a co-main on the next Patriot Center show. This fight needs a venue of that magnitude. This is the only place I can see it happening because of the shows venue generating.

United won't pay for it, neither will Hard Times if that joke ever comes back, Rise and Shine or whatever the name is won't either.
