Post Profiles 'Mayhem' Mitchell!

The Washington Post has a nice profile on "America's Number One Heavyweight Prospect," undefeated Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell of Brandywine, MD. Shemar Woods talks to the former Gwynn Park High School football All-Met as he prepares for his HBO bout on Saturday, August 27.

I was shocked to see the Washington Post give local boxing some love.

On the downside, it was apparent that the writer wasn't a regular boxing writer, nor a guy who's spent a whole lot of time in the local gyms.

A shame really, as there seems to be several good prospects based out of DC, and a few other solid boxers who like to train here.

I'd love for there to be a Post writer who hangs out at the gyms and pens more about boxing. But I guess that's why we have this blog...

Heavyweight Kevin Johnson says he is tired of being avoided by every heavyweight in the country and sent Boxingtalk the following offer by e-mail: "I hear that Golden Boy and HBO are looking for an opponent for Seth Mitchell on August 27th. Look no more! I will fight Seth Mitchell and I will sign a contract saying if I lose, they can pay me just $1. That’s right, $1. When I win, just pay me $50,000 and an extra $50,000 when I stop him... Let’s see what Golden Boy and Mitchell say about that." Johnson plans to go to Atlantic City this weekend to deliver his message in person to HBO and Golden Boy representatives.

He may be making a wasted trip. According to the Mitchell camp, Mitchell does indeed have an opponent -- Mike Mollo of Oak Lawn, IL (20-3-1, 12 KO's).

its very evident that Seth don't want it. Mike Mollo is fuggin terrible. Lets see if they real or try to keep protecting him. We'll find out on August 27th.

Actually, Mitchell DOES want it. Nobody wants to give him the opportunity.

Chazz Witherspoon keeps turning him down (that's who Mitchell REALLY wants) and guys like Chris Arreola don't want to face him either.
