Here is the recap of the ICE Promotions card at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA:
Jimmy Lange wins 10-round unanimous decision over Jimmy Holmes.
William Joppy wins 10-round unanimous decision over Cory Cummings.
Larry Pryor upset previously undefeated Mark Tucker by eight-round unanimous decision.
Todd Wilson won by disqualification over Dean White after the third round.
Tony Jeter defeated Mike McFail by six-round unanimous decision.
Scott Sigmon scored the only knockout of the night, stopping John Terry in the fourth round.
Abodurin Akinyanju won a four-round split decision over Ron Gamble
George Rivera captured a six-round unanimous decision over Shakir Ashanti.
Before we get to the Post-Fight Wrap-Up, let me respond to a couple of posts made during the live blog. Thanks for following the posts, by the way:
A fan from Todd Wilson's hometown of Bloomington, IL (that's where Wilson was born) wanted to know more about Wilson's bout with Dean White. Basically, both men were penalized for holding in the first round after numerous cautions from referee Billy Johnson. After those cautions, the referee has to issue a warning and that is where people get confused.
The cautions lead to the warnings which ARE the point deductions. White also lost points for holding and hitting low after the bell. That is why White was disqualified. It should also be noted that before the third round, Johnson did go over to the White corner and warn his camp.
Now could Johnson have been more lenient and let the battle go on a little longer (which myself and most people would have like to have seen)? Maybe, but in strict adherence to the rules, probably not.
It is another tough break for White, who has some of the worst luck of any boxer I have seen in a long time. There are numerous bouts where I and others thought he easily won and was, flat out, gypped by the judges. This, I don't think, falls into the gyp category, but it is still a tough break.
About Mark Tucker -- a poster said that this loss is a setback but there is still an opportunity for Tucker to rebound. I definitely agree with that. The best thing about this loss is that Tucker is still very young and he does have time to bounce back.
As you will hear on the Post-Fight Wrap-Up, Tucker has been struggling with injuries for some time. Honestly, he has not looked his best in some time and the injuries could be a factor. During tonight's video taping of this card, "The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears and I were joined by noted trainer Jose "Pepe" Correa, who worked a short time with Tucker. Correa made what could be a valid point -- Tucker may be experiencing too much too soon. He has sparred with the likes of Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson. A fighter learns a lot, but could be wearing down in that situation. I don't know if that's the case, but again, the best thing is that Tucker has time to bounce back.

My first and last time watching a Lange card.
The Virginia commission has long had a problem handling MMA cards. Last night, they couldn't handle a boxing card. The lowlights:
- Announcing someone (McFail) who had been knocked down as a 60-53 unanimous winner. Correction came several minutes later. Still not great -- McFail easily won 1 or 2 rounds against an overconfident Jeter.
- The decision to DQ White wasn't bad, but the communication was awful. First, the ref motioned to take a point. Then a few seconds later, he waved it off.
- The Lange fight was home cooking all the way. At one stage, the ref warned Holmes for alleged low blows. They restart, and Lange immediately lands two shots between the "HOLMES" on the belt and somewhere sensitive. The ref warned Holmes for everything and even took a point away, while Lange pounded this guy in the "upper thigh" and held Holmes' arms so long I thought I was watching MMA. Lange came on strong near the end and may have won five rounds, but 97-92? Come on.
To their credit, they did stop the Sigmon fight when necessary, and Pryor got the decision he clearly deserved.
Best moment of the night was the national anthem, when a very nervous young woman with a wonderful voice forgot a couple of words. The crowd sang with her the rest of the way and gave her a great ovation. Good stuff.

As far as the Mcfail mixup, this seemed to be the fault of the commission, not the announcer. An educated guess: The commission got the cards mixed up and put the fighters in the wrong corners. Although, the judges SHOULD know who's who (if nothing else because they've seem them before) they tend to be oblivious.
I knew something was up when I saw Discombobulating Jones behind the commission members longer than I thought he should have been, given the way the bout went. Afterwards, Jones said he repeatedly asked the commission whether this was the actual result before he went back into the ring.
As far as White and Wilson, I stand by what I wrote in this post. There was communication from Referee Billy Johnson between the second and third rounds. Actually, during the videotaping of the broadcast, I said to my colleagues that I thought a DQ was forthcoming. Both guys lost points in the first round for holding. It was just that type of bout.
I don't agree on the home cooking for Lange. Holmes did some good things but Lange changed speeds and tactics throughout and won the bout. You could make the case that the scores could have been closer, but Lange clearly won the bout.
As far as the anthem, there is something about that second stanza that trips a lot of people up. That is where Christina Aguilera messed up and I've heard other people mess up at that point as well. I felt for the young lady and she handled it well by continuing.
Oh definitely -- the commission deserves the blame rather than the announcer. I liked the announcer, aside from him asking whether we wanted to see a rematch of a sloppy Wilson-White bout (no thanks!). It's not a bad promotion. They're just stuck with an awful commission.
With Lange, my biggest problem was the referee, not the judges. Lange had free rein to hold, punch below the belt and do pretty much whatever he wanted. Holmes was warned and lost a point.
I like the Cinch-cast. It's much easier to use than Gab-Cast. Were you able to keep your GabCast archives when you switched over?
I hope that Beau reconsiders his decision to make this his first and last Patriot Center card. They have a reputation of relatively even matches and last night was perhaps too even, lacking some of the exciting KO's of shows past.
I agree with Digital that the Lange fight wasn't home-cooked. Lange's decision loss against Chase Shields demonstrated that Virginia judges don't have a problem with denying the hometown fighter when the out-of-towner's performance merits it. Holmes fought a hearty, gutsy fight, but he was clearly dominated by Lange, especially with Lange's jab and inside work.
I did think that the Dean White decision was a poor one. While the ref gave plenty of warnings, his tolerance level had much lower threshhold than most. Contrast that fight with the Lange-Holmes fight to see what happens when the ref takes a proverbial step back and gives the fighters a little more room to fight.
John "The Baptist" Terry is growing on me. While he was sole TKO of the evening, he was a lot of fun to watch. I'm pretty sure that he was the one a few fights ago who was dancing with the ring card girl between rounds.
What the heck counts as "excessive" holding?
All in all, not the best show I've been to, but by no means the worst. I dug the HW fight.

Beau, you raise a good point about the referee, however I look at it from another view.
Dr. Joe Cooper is a marvelous referee, however he has worked the majority of Lange's main events. From purely an image standpoint, that may not look good to some people. I'm curious to see whether that will change or not.
Again, this is not an attack on Dr. Cooper, because he has been fantastic in these matches.
good show but first thing i have to question is dr joe cooper WTF dr if hes a dr then im muhammad ali lange fought well and won the fight the decision was right a lot of pretty good talent on the show but im wonderin if theyre raiding smaller promoters or working with them
I believe Joe Cooper recently received his doctorate. I'm not sure in what subject.
A lot of the boxers have fought on these shows before. I don't think there was any raiding done.
