Guerrero Will Face Smith on ShoBox Card July 16 in Memphis!

BATB has learned that, after much speculation, undefeated Salisbury, MD middleweight Fernando Guerrero will indeed face Ishe "Sugar Shay" Smith of Las Vegas, NV on Friday, July 16 at the DeSoto Center in Memphis, TN. This will be the 10-round main event of a Showtime "ShoBox" tripleheader.

Smith, a member of the cast of season one of "The Contender," (21-4, nine KO's) is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Daniel Jacobs for the NABO Middleweight title on August 22 in Houston, TX. Smith is a former USBA, NABO and WBC Continental Americas titleholder.

Guerrero (18-0, 15 KO's) scored a second-round TKO over Michael Walker on April 16 in his hometown of Salisbury. Walker went eight rounds with Jacobs in May of last year.

jacobs fighting for the title anyway. I am sure that if he wins and offers the fight to guerrero that fernando would take the fight. you don't turn down a title shot.

As we come to the end of Guerrero fighting soft opposition and start the beginning of his quest for a title run. I ask this one question...

Do you think he has what it takes to become a champion?? I have never seen him fight that's why I am asking. Don't take it as a diss to him in anyway.

i would love 2 c him leave prizefight promotions. and join with bob arum wba an a new world class trainer like emmanuel steward or buddy mcgirt .think smart fernando.....

did you just say buddy mcgirt what makes you think he is better than barry, a trainer prepares you for a fight, if your chin is glass, you can have any trainer you want youre going to sleep, and mcgirt has had numerous of fighters loose, and you see no one jumping on him, barry has 1 blemish on his fighters record and they say get a new trainer please. and you say go to top rank, well to that ass hole, when they first went to them, they wanted nothing to do with Fernando, and as soon as they started to see him sell out salsibury, here comes toprank here come golden boy, i do understand that thiers no loyalaty in this business, but that kid is doing just that being loyal to hal prizefight and who ever else that has helped him, cause they hal was their from the beginning, when he had no title, no real place to stay and all. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO FERNANDO, YOU TRAIN HARD, AND IT WILL PAY OFF.

Leave Prize Fight and Barry? Why? What in the track record of either would make you want to leave them. Barry's resume is strong in building young fighters from the ground up, teaching them strong defensive fundamentals and nice boxing skills while also mentoring them as young men. Prize Fight has proven to invest in young fighters when nobody else will. Look at the way Prize Fight built the Peterson's careers, Guerrero, Shawn Porter, Dominic Wade, Ty Barnett.... The list goes on and on really. Those are just a few. What other promotional company out there invest in young African American fighters like Prize Fight? They really should be applauded for their efforts. Everyone else in the business says stay away from black fighters because they can't sell at the gate or on PPV. Prize Fight invest in them.
