Boxing Returns to Du Burns With New Promotional Group Thursday, June 17!

A relatively new local promotional group -- Bang Time Boxing -- will make its boxing debut with a Pro-Am card on Thursday, June 17 at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore.

Bang Time Boxing is headed by John Rallo, who has put together a number of Mixed Martial Arts shows in the past. Scheduled to appear on the card will be Beltway Boxers Mike "The Persecutor" Paschall, Maurice "Freight Train" Byarm, "The American Child" Nick Kisner and the returning Russ "The Hammer" Shiflett.

There will also be four amateur bouts on the card and one more pro bout may be added. We'll update once more information comes in. Their website will be added to the promoters links.

JOHN RALLO, MIKE PASCHALL, AND RUSS SHIFLET ARE BANGTIME PROMOTIONS. JAKE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS AND YES HE DID GET REAL MAD WHEN ONE OF THE GUYS THAT JAKE PUTS ON HIS CARD. SO GO AND HURT THE FIGHTER BUT WHEN SCOTT W CALLS AND WANTS JAKE TO MAKE FIGHTS FOR THEIR CARD ITS COOL AS LONG AS JAKE MAKES MONEY

Hey Mike Paschall, we know it's you. Take the caps lock off Mike!

Jake ought to get mad if you guys can't put one of his guys on the card. Where would Mike Paschall and Russ be without Jake putting on shows and getting them fights? Come on guys, how about a little gratitude? If you don't understand what I'm talking about, promote a few more fights and you will learn what I am talking about. You should get at least one of Jake's guys on the show. AND, you better hope things go smoothly and all your fights stay together because if you don't, Jake Smith is going to have to be your go to guy. And you don't want your go to guy being pissed off at you. You want a nice professional working relationship with him. You should do what I say fellas because I've been there and done that.

Man Jake is a piece of Shit, U dont need Jake to make your Show successful. Its a lot of Fighters that Jake dont put on his cards, Good Fighters at that. And it dont have to do with selling tickets, cause the couples Fighters that I'm talking bout can tell tickets. But thats BULLSHIT selling tickets for your purse & the Promoter don't do shit but get rich. If you have a great promotional team & the right Fighters on the Card, especially the good local prospects, people will come out to see the Fights! Its alot of HATIN on some Boxers in Baltimore. What are B-MOORE known for, CRAGS!

Spoke like someone who has never, ever promoted a professional boxing match and never, ever will! Promoters getting rich you say? Yep, Jake is just behind Bill Gates and Donald Trump on the list! Yeah right! Get real and get a clue!

how much do fighters get paid today that ringside seats are 100 bucks

most shows today have 6 or 8 rd main events years ago that would never happen

Anonymous said...

Not alot, on the average $1200 for 6rd. and $1500 for 8rd. If you fighting in Baltimore you gotta take your purse in Tickets. Only in B-Moore. I am glad its another Promoter in Baltimore. We need more so that they can set the Bar & put them Bullshit Promoters out of Business.

Jake said he didnt want his fighter on our card. I, Russell Shiflett train with Jakes fighter and Jake said no not us. We are not trying to start wars just give fans what they want QUALITY EVENTS. Jakes fighter is well known and a great fighter and would love him on our card. But Jake is worried about Jake not keeping guys busy.

This is mike paschall and no i didnt write that comment with all caps but iam writing this i will not kiss jakes ass or any one else to make fights ive been feeding other promoters in md for a long time so now i want to do it my self and people talk shit. i know it takes alot to put on a show i know i help put their shows on. so this is how i take it if i fail doing this then i fail doing it but i will not kiss anyones ass to get by. and thats what were trying to do with our shows make them a lot better then others so if you dont like to spend a 100 on a ticket then you can catch the results on batb. (thank you gary) and we did try to put jakes fighters on the card and jake went off. thats if you call him jakes fighter by making him belive that jake is the only one that can get him fights.and if jake didnt put mike or russ on the cards then his show would really do bad yes we do put people in the seats and where would jake be if he didnt have mike p or russ or mike d to put on the cards its a two way street you guys need to know the truth befor you get on here running your mouth.and for the record that blackballing goes both ways. but people it is what it is. win lose or draw me and russ will put over 500 people alone in the seats at our show. and thank you guys we do need haters to make us move forward and yes this is mike paschall 410 2275658

All I have to say about Jake "The Garden Snake" Smith is hahahahahah,He's the punch line of a big ol' fat joke! I mean come on "Where would Shiflett and Paschall be w/o the "Garden Snake"???? Alot better off Ill tell you that much. I speak from experience when I say "The Garden Snake" looks out for NO ONE but his self. He has never trained his fighters unless you call taking them out getting them drunk and fighting in bars training. He'll throw them in the ring with anyone as long as he gets paid, and have you ever been to one of his ghetto a** boxing shows? Youll get your fill of fights alright (in the ring and out of the ring). Then order your beer and watch your bartender pull it out of a warm 30 pk sitting on the floor or order your Grey Goose (thats really rail vodka that Jake had someone poor into the bottles from previous shows) after that you can sit down relax, enjoy the fight while trying not to get stabbed with your small over priced drink. Fact is, is Russ and Mike teaming up with John Rallo is a good thing! You have two classy fighters with a Classy Net working giant like Rallo! If you think Russ & Mike got to where they are because of anything less then hard work, hustle and self ambition your a fool as well. Just remeber they dont call Jake "The Snake" for nothing!

This is John Rallo. First off I want to thank Mr. Williams for asking to cover our card. I have listened to him on various sports talk shows for years covering boxing. I also remember him covering local high school athletics as well. I respect him very much and will grant him full access to cover our event.

We have never told any of Jake's fighters they can not be on our card. I actually reached out and called Jake to ask for his permission to use the fighter in question and he balked at our offer. I told Jake that I was willing to meet with him and even discuss dates so that we were not stepping on eachother's toes. So far that has not happened.

I really do not care for all of the drama that is being created between Jake and I. I want to put on quality events that fight fans will enjoy. I want the event to be enjoyable as well. I hope to make it a nice quality event to differentiate myself from the boxing shows people are used to seeing.

Mike and Russ asked me if I would do a boxing show with them. Since Mike and Russ are friends I accepted. Now I am trying to learn the ropes so I can promote a solid boxing card.

So I hope that this squashes the Jake vs my promotion drama. Jake and I spoke again tonight. WE are discussing if we can work together or not. We are acting like adults here and I hope that everyone else will do the same.

thanks for your time and I hope you will come and see the show on June 17th. www.bangtimeboxing.com

Good luck boys! But if kind of reminds me of the old saying, "be careful what you wish for because you just might get it!"

This display is exactly the reason that boxing has been struggling! Leave business to businessmen. This behavior turns ticket-buying fans away. Let the fight cards speak for themselves. If you want people to call you a professional, act like a professional. If you want fans, earn them by doing things the right way. Not by trying to talk about what everyone else is doing wrong.

Part 1 of 2

A few posts up someone said:

"how much do fighters get paid today that ringside seats are 100 bucks

That's an excellent point! BUT, there is an answer. And it lies in the REGULATION and PROMOTION of our beloved sport.

First the Regulation, or more specifically, the regulators - The State Boxing Commissions: State boxing commissions, and not just in Maryland, Virginia, DC, but ALL of them, are killing professional boxing with their outrageous fees, medical requirements, and state percentages. Have you ever asked yourself why the Baltimore Ravens or the Washington Redskins or anyone in the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, etc. doesn't have to deal with state regulators? Billionaires like Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones don't have to deal with the state taking their cut and imposing rules on them, their sport, and their organization , but guys like our local promoters, with a fraction of the money, do? What kind of sense does that make? It makes no sense at all! Why should our Government be involved in the regulation of a Professional Sport anyway? Professional Boxing needs to be privatized and the boxing commissions need to go!

With that said, there were boxing commissions years ago BUT their fee structure was much less strenuous financially and it was a much more equitable arrangement in the past. Insurance requirements weren't nearly as high. Medical requirements, and their associated costs, weren't nearly as high. If Boxing wasn't regulated by the state, a Promoter could decrease the cost of his show by as much as 30%! That's money that the Promoter could use to pay for ten round fights that are not televised!

Part 2 of 2

And now, let's talk about the Promotion of the sport, or more specifically the Promotion of the sport by the Major Promoters, and how that has eroded boxing's fan base. The big fights in the USA always end up in Las Vegas because that is where everyone can receive the most money. But do you realize that most of those tickets are given away and not sold? Technically, they are sold from the Promoter to the hosting casino who then calls up some big high roller and says, "How about coming to town this weekend for the big fight? I've got 4 ringside seats for you and a complimentary hotel suite". Then the guys comes to town, plays blackjack until right before the Main Event (which is why the crowd is always empty until right before the big fight) goes to the fight, then goes back to the casino and plays some more blackjack. The theory on the casino's part is we give away 4 $500 tickets which costs the casino $2,000. But the high roller and three of his buddies lose $20,000 on their trip so the casinos are $18,000 up and the Promoter got paid for the tickets in the form of a site fee from the casino. Everybody makes money and everybody is happy BUT what does that do to the sport as a whole? Is it now a legitimate ticket driven business like the other major professional sports? NO - it is a loss leader. It is the exact same thing as Wal-Mart selling, for example, T-Shirts at a cost that is less than what they cost to make? How can they do that? They can do that because the guy that comes in to buy the T-Shirts may drop a few bucks on a case of beer and some chips for the big fight that may not be on sale. That's where they make their money. That's where they make their money. Same thing in Las Vegas. They make their money by the guy losing money at the blackjack table, not from the guy buying tickets to the big fight.

Some like to blame mixed martial arts. I do not. MMA is a different sport entirely, it's not taking fans from boxing. Boxing has been its own worst enemy for years and the way the big boys have been running the sport filters down to the local shows and the club shows, and it hurts us greatly. The big Promoters aren't really even Promoters in the true definition of the word. They are repackaging or distributing the product. They get their site fee from the casino (meaning they sell all their tickets to the casino), they get their television money from HBO, Showtime, or Pay Per View, they put together the fights, pay the fighters and take their cut.

Our local Promoters really are Promoters! They have costs associated with the show, they negotiate the fights, purses, and venue leases. They SELL tickets and sponsorships to the show and hope to turn a profit.

I do see some promising things out there. I like the fact that some of the big fights in America have ended up in Dallas (with Pacquaio) and Yankee Stadium (with Cotto). I like the fact that Vitali Klitschko can draw 60,000 people in Germany this weekend against a guy who lost to Zuri Lawrence. Those are positive things.

But the way the sport is regulated and promoted in America; that makes the club show promoter's job an almost impossible one to turn a profit and that is why you see $100 ringside seats and 6 or 8 round Main Events.

Now go out and support your local boxing shows and write your local representatives and ask them, "Why in the heck is our government regulating professional boxing? The government doesn't regulate the Promoter who is promoting the Kiss Concert or The Garth Brooks Concert. The government isn't regulating The Baltimore Ravens. Why is the government regulating Jake Smith, and Joe Hensley, and Johnny Lange, and Han Kim, and Scott Farmer, and Asim Anif, and Scott Wagner, and Mark Tucker, and whoever else? Makes no sense at all!
