Congratulations to Glen Burnie, MD resident Chuck "Pit Bull" Sturm -- one of the newest inductees into the Anne Arundel County Sports Hall of Fame.
Before Sturm became a pro boxer, he made his name as a wrestler while at Old Mill High School in Millersville, MD. Sturm won two state championships and had a record of 103-9-2.
Sturm was 68-9 as an amateur boxer before turning pro in 1985 at the age of 21 as a lightweight, junior welterweight and welterweight. Sturm became one of the more popular boxers on the Baltimore side of the Beltway, compiling a record of 33-5-2, 11KO's from 1985-1998. Sturm fought for the IBO lightweight title in 1993, losing by 11th round KO to Anthony Boyle in Aspen, CO.
The hall of fame induction ceremony will be on Wednesday, October 15 at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie -- a city where Sturm was undefeated as a pro (13-0-1, two KO's).

Chuck Sturm compiled a record of Won 34 (KO 11)/ Lost 5 (KO 3)/Draw 2 in his 41 pro bouts. Retired after being stopped by Joey Gamache in the 6th round in a welterweight tilt. Sturm was a slow-footed, light-hitting pugilist who put together a decent record for his talent.
