MD Featherweight Title Bout Cancelled Again..Possibly for Good!

There is late word that the Maryland State Featherweight title bout between Thomas "KO" Snow and Tyrell "Da Show Shock'A" Samuel that was slated for Saturday, May 3 at the District Heights Municipal Center has been cancelled again. And this time, there doesn't seem to be any hope of rescheduling the bout.

The issue this time is an even more important and pressing one -- Samuel's health condition. The Baltimore native had signed to fight a bout in New Jersey late last year. The New Jersey doctors did an electrocardiagram on Samuel as part of their medical procedure. Warning signs came up on the EKG and Samuel was not allowed to fight on the card. The card ended up being cancelled.

When word got out about Samuel's New Jersey EKG, Samuel saw another physician in Maryland (no word on whether it was Samuel's own doctor or a Maryland State Athletic Commission doctor). The results were similar. Reportedly, Maryland does not give an EKG as part of the Commission medical procedure.

BATB sends its best wishes to Samuel and hopes his condition improves.

Snow is still scheduled to be on the Keystone Boxing Promotions card as they look for another opponent. Meanwhile, the Capitol Heights native has reportedly signed a managerial contract with "The First Lady of Boxing," Jackie Kallen.

Is an EKG a heart test or a head test? I'm not trying to be silly here, I just want to know the difference. Hope the young man is okay.

Thomas Snow will not be fighting on the card.
And an EKG is a heart test.

Sorry to hear Samuel's news. Perhaps the Ballroom cancellation was a blessing in disguise.

Surprised and great to hear Jackie Kallen will be working with Thomas Snow. Does that mean he will get more exposure outside the Beltway as well? Who was he working with before?

Ding-A-Ling-Man Update!
Wilson: I'll knock Arslan's head off
Cruiserweight contender Darnell "Ding-A-Ling-Man" Wilson is gearing up for his crack at the world title against WBA champion Firat Arslan on May 3 at Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Hall in Stuttgart, Germany. "This is my dream," said Wilson. "Nobody can stop me from becoming world champion on May 3. I knew all along that I deserved my shot but at times it seemed like it was never going to happen. I knocked off four world rated fighters in a row at one point and I am glad justice has now been done." The Duva Boxing-promoted Wilson (23-6-3, 20 KOs) is currently in Florida putting the finishing touches on training camp. The regimen of workouts included two weeks of intense sparring, plyometrics and four mile runs complimented by sprints. The plyometrics have strengthened Wilson's core and will help him recover faster, deliver more punches and hit harder than ever before. "I am pretty ripped. When I am at that press conference, everybody will see what tremendous shape I am in," adds Wilson. "Nobody will punch with me for 12 rounds. I am going to knock Arslan's head off. I am prepared to go 12 rounds and could even do 15 but I am a knockout artist and if that opportunity presents itself, I will take full advantage!"

I would like to know: If Tyrell is not suspended and MD doesn't DO EKG exams, why is he not fighting Snow?

This sounds like a real heart problem, alright? Lack of one.

That may sound shocking but the man gets no sympathy from me. I read on boxrec that he's now scheduled to fight some bum (Moubi Armstrong whose record is 2-2-0 <- who sanctioned THIS?!)in New Jersey on June 19th.

So the question is how has he scheduled another fight in June with this 'heart condition'? He better see the Wizard about that heart soon......because this sounds all too suspect to me.

I don't know. If one commission puts you on the shelf then the others have to follow. If it's a legit heart problem he won't be fighting until the problem is resolved. If it is resolved and he does resume fighting, then I would see no reason why the Snow fight wouldn't happen.

Thomas Snow will indeed be fighting on the card and his opponent will be none other than Eric Hunter!!!!!!

Fighters are on cards when contracts are signed. Until that point there is no fight.

Things that make you go, 'Hmmm...':

1. If the EKG was taken late last year then how was Samuel scheduled to fight Snow the first time at Michael's earlier this month?

2. And why all of a sudden did he decide to go to the doctor this time?

3. If all the commissions are to 'follow suit' as said previously, then shouldn't this have been taken care of before Samuel even THOUGHT about taking another fight.

4. Does the EKG also record whether the fighter has come down with another case of cantfightis?

5. Is Snow really fighting Eric Hunter and if so, why hasn't any one posted anything 'official' with the fight being less than one week away?

6. Is it just me, or can everyone else see why boxing hasn't survived in this area??? Ahhh - the antics.

Nothing is straightforward in the business of boxing... That's why it's inundated with crooks, conmen, and the mediocre-minded.

As the great Madison Square Garden matchmaker Teddy Brenner titled his autobiography... "Only The Ring Was Square".

And yet it still survives!!!!
