Robles Battles Calloway March 15 in Pennsylvania!

One of the Beltway's top prospects will take a major step up in competition next month. Undefeated Waynesboro, VA cruiserweight "JC Superstar" Juan Carlos Robles will battle "The All-American" Prizefighter" Rob Calloway in a 10-round contest on Saturday, March 15 in Allentown, PA.

Calloway will be the most experienced foe Robles (9-0, four KO's) has faced and the first bout he has had since his April 28 six-round victory over James Johnson in Fisherville, VA. Calloway (67-7-1, 53 KO's) has faced a number of former champions and top challengers as a heavyweight, including a 2004 bout against Hasim Rahman in 2004 in Glen Burnie, MD. But Calloway has resurrected his career since dropping back down from the heavyweight division, winning nine straight contests, including a fourth-round TKO over Galen Brown on October 6 in his adopted hometown of Saint Joseph, MO. That bout gave Calloway three major regional titles. No word if any of those titles will be on the line against Robles.

"Rob Calloway is a good fighter with a lot of experience," said Robles's promoter Joe Hensley in a press release. He's a tough guy. But he's got something that we want and that's a world ranking and he's in our way. Juan is in the best shape of his life, he's strong as a bull, he's smart, and he's as hungry as any fighter in the game today. (Trainer) Bruce Frank will have Juan in shape to go 20 rounds and he will devise a game plan to defeat this dangerous opponent. Juan is going to win on March 15th and then he will be one step closer towards his goal of winning a world title!"

I find it surprising that they would put a guy with 9 fights in with someone like Calloway who has over 70 and faced tough competition and had some success.

If JCR can win this fight it would be huge for him.

But isn't it refreshing? So tired of some of the promoters keeping the training wheels on fighters for so long and me starting to feel like I am being milked for another $40 or $50 per show so they can rack another (YAWN) 1 on the win side.
Congratulations to the promoter and the the fighter and bye bye to the money I won't mind spending to see a "uncoddled" fight for a change.

tough, tough, tough, tough, tough fight for Robles. Calloway is on top of his game.

This should be a battle royale between these two brawlers.

Both can punch, both are tough as nails, and both have NO defense...

I love it!

Why are they doing this? Juan has fought NOBODY, now they are throwing him to the wolf. Massacre.

Juan's opponents are 3-38 total for their fights shown on Juan's record.

I think you better look those records up again. Robles' opponents have better records than that. Also, who has Calloway beaten that's impressive on his record? No one really. He's basically fought the same competiton that Robles has fought, he's just fought more of it, that's all. But, just like several of the posts have said, if Robles wins, it will be huge for him! I know one thing, it's going to be one hell of a fight!

Give an example of a good fighter that Juan has fought.

Robles opponents:
James Johnson had lost his last 6 before fighting Juan.
Lenzie Morgan had lost his last 11.
Kishawn Davis had never fought before, probably not even in the gym.
Derek Amos had lost 12 od hia last 13.
Dan Sheehan had lost 12 in a row.
Jonathan Felton was 1-3
Adnre Shavers was 0-1
Larry Hyatt was 0-8

Lenzie Morgan and Jonathan Felton are good fighters and heavyweights. James Johnson is a good fighter. Derek Amos still had some game when Juan fought him. Rob Calloway fought a guy named David Robinson in 2006 who was very similar to a Derek Amos type of record. The difference, Calloway had 50 something fights when he fought Robinson. It was Robles' fourth fight when he fought Amos! That's why Calloway has all those numbers on his record. Juan's going to win this fight, more than likely by stoppage! And it won't be an upset either, Juan is just better than this guy. You'll see!

Most state boxing commissions will not allow Derek Amos and James Johnson to fight. Lenzie Morgan had basically been retired and there is probably no state other than Virginia that would allow him to fight. Robles may be a hell of a prospect, but there is no way that he is ready for Calloway. Calloway has fought a lot of easy guys as well, but he has also been in with some very good fighters. His performance against Rahman who was much bigger and a true heavyweight was credible while it lasted. This is very sad and a shame to to take a promising young talent and throw him in a fight at this level. If his promoter is so desperate to gain a world ranking for the kid then he should give hima ten round fight and then host Robles in a fight for one of the four NA titles of the four major sanctioning bodies. Bring in a guy with a good record who Robles can beat, and then win the belt. With that will come a top ten or top twelve world ranking in the parent sanctioning body. Of course the promoter has to spend some money to do that, but at least at that point you have a fighter who has fought a ten rounder as well as fought for a North American title in a legit organization. Then have him fight at home to what will be bigger crowds now that he is a championfour more times and on a couple of those defend his belt. At that point he will be 15-0, and everytime he defends his title he will get a bump in the rankings. Sowith the wins he would move up to number 8 or number 6 and be right in the thick of it without taking such a risky fight so early in his career.

It's funny that only VA would let Amos fight but MD let's fat, out of shape aint had a good fight since he beat Tyson Rahman fight all the time. Go figure.

Joe count me in for about four of those tickets and maybe alot more when fight time comes.
Juan we wish you all the best and will be there to support you.

I believe in Juan and whether he wins (which he will) or loses (which he won't), he will have made me proud to say he gave it his all regardless of the outcome. For someone to say he will not be ready, you really have no idea how much of a fighter he really is. Good Luck to both men!

Its a shame roples was put in against calloway roples is a extremly tough fighter with world caliber potential callaway is a seasoned veteren that can deal with a green prospect comeing up major leage boxing which promotes roples knew this and should have known better the result was roples got his jaw dislocated and got his teeth broken although he did put up a game effort there was alot more of a professional way joe hensley roples promoter could have brought him up like putting him into to top level training camps with top level fighters in need of a tough sparring partner so roples can learn on the job i myself have been one of the top trainers in philly for over 20 years i saw the fight and it made me sad to see someone with roples mental toughness put to slaughter even though he put up a game effort calloway was just toying with the 9 and 0 prospect when he realized roples was tough he blasted him out of there and to correct people who dont know calloway is nothing more then a gate keeper that you have to beat so the boxing world knows who you are you need experience to beat these gate keepers every respectable trainer knows that and i certainly do being i"m one of the trainers that brought up many world champions including benard hopkins i wish all my luck to roples i think you have what it takes and joe hensley you should be ashamed of your self
