SRL Gym Sending Eight to Silver Gloves Regionals!

The Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Center in Palmer Park, MD will be sending eight boxers to the Silver Gloves Regional Championships in Augusta, GA. These boxers won titles at the Silver Gloves local tourney held this week at the Upton Recreational Center in Baltimore.

Here are the eight boxers representing the SRL Center:

Zimmie Dickinson 10-11 65lbs. Zimmie is the 2005, 2006 and 2007 DC MD VA Silver Gloves Champion, 2007 Ringside World Champion and winner of this year's Silver Gloves Outstanding Boxer in the 10-11 year old division.

Marcus Wright 10-11 70lbs
Greg Outlaw 14-15 75lbs
Chris Forbes 12-13 90lbs
Daquan "J-Rock" Johnson 12-13 125lbs
Marcus Gaddis 14-15 119lbs
Mason Jordan 14-15 147lbs

Alantex Fox 14-15 139lbs. Alantex has finished the year ranked #2 in the US on three different occasions and also has won the Ringside World Championship
.

If these young people can advance through Augusta, they will have a chance to represent Region Three in the National Silver Gloves Championships in Missouri in February.

There are other boxers from the Beltway who will be going to the regionals. I am waiting complete details from this weekend's competition.

Mr. Tez Fox beat the brakes off of Rock Warden last night. All five judges had it for Fox by a land side. Tez Fox is the number one Jr, Welter weight in the USA right now. I am not sure who trains him, all I know is that he looks like a future world champion to me.

Lets not forget about Mr. Zimmie
Dickerson. This little guy is undefeated and is so far above all the other kids around here.
In fact, you can check him out on You tube.com He whips everyone with ease. I hear is a trained by the same guy as Mr. Fox. Perhaps that guy should get coach of the year award. Does anyone know who the trainer is of these kids? I like to know who else he trains.
Does he train pros too?

Actually you and I saw the same fight but the judges had it close (too close on some cards). One had Rock scoring 12-16 pts during the bout. Rock is a good fighter, but not on that night. There were some other bouts that resulted in raised eyebrows as well, but overall Calvin put in a great tournament in Baltimore. If you follow amateur boxing in the area you know the judging/scoring is all over the place. It's unfortunate but not a secret.

I know those kids you are talking about. You are right! They are the best kids around here right now.
They are trained by Mr. Troy Fox.
From what I gather, Troy never boxed pro but was one hell of am amature back in the day. Troy's son is expected to win the 2012 Gold. After seeing him perform last night, I must agree with the rest of the boxing family. He took it easy on the Rock and still beat him hands down.

Beach Road Boxing and Sugar Ray's are now located at the same location. I feel sorry for all the other gyms now since that has happen. Those two gyms working hand in hand are now far above the rest. Headbangers and Old School have now taken a back seat when it comes to champions. Actually it was Fox from Beach Rd/Sugar Rays who beat Rock Warden from Old School. It was Zimmie from Beach Road/Sugar Rays who beat Jordan White from Headbangers. The torch has been handed over. Keep up the great work. Fox, you are doing a great job with those kids!!!!!!!

The other boxers are trained by Will and a couple by Mr. Hinton. I know that both train pros also. All of the SRL boxers looked good even the ones that didn't win. One of the kids had to fight Antoine Douglas (has more than 100 fights), who just beat the TeamUSA captain Brian Nichols in the PAL tournament this year and who many expect to finish this tourny ranked #1 in the USA. Will's kid has only been boxing for months. It was clear that he was outmatched, but he stood in there with the best.

Zimmie Dickinson will always beat Jordan White. Zimmie has a better coach and is always ready.
Fox has done a terrific job with Zimmie and Tez. Both of them are on their A-Game right now.
Beech Rd-Sugar Rays is on top of the amature scene right now!!!

Are the final results in? How did Tony MacGruder do?

Tony Magruder won a 2-1 spit against Patrick Solman

SRL GYM & Beech Rd. have more boxers going to the regionals than anyone.
Zimmie and Tez lead the way!
Those boxers receive the proper training. The older guys can watch Zimmie and learn from him. You can catch some of Zimmies's matches on Youtube.com. I hear Tez will be on there too real soon. Stay Tuned!
Tez 2012-Gold Winner! Remember you heard it hear first...

I think that young man Fox should get the outstanding Boxing trophy for the 14-15 year old class. He was the best boxer in the tournament. I have no idea what the judges were looking at when they did not pick him. They must have been drunk. Zimmie won the outstanding boxers trophy, but a blind drunk could see that Zimmie was the best boxer that ever stepped foot in Upton or any other gym in Baltimore. Zimmie is the next Sugar Ray Leonard. I hear he out boxes all the other kids-even the ones who are older and bigger than he is. The combination of Beech Rd boxing and Sugar Ray Leonards are unbeatable. All the other gyms better look out. We got a new sherrif in town and he is kicking butts and taking names.

Gary, The Silver Glove show at upton was Great! There were 19 bouts and only 2 had to be stopped. It was great action all night. For me this was my second all night show in a row since I did Jake's show the previous night,Once again this is a great reminder of the talent thats in this area. I strongly urge BATB fans who have only been to pro shows to check out an ameture show when they can, they will not be disapointed at all.Calvin and the Upton gym did a great job with that show. The crowd was very much behind there guys,My hat's off to SRL gym and the Headbangers There kids looked great!!

Thanks for all the support and comments. Beech Road Boxing is nothing but good memories. SRL is my home now. Hats off to all boxers that competed in the Silver Gloves. No road was an easy task. Every dog has his day and Jordan White is barking louder every time we face him. Let's try to get a Silver Gloves for Tez before we go to the Olympics. Thanks for noticing his abilities though. Finally, if anybody has my amateur bout against Mike Tyson please let me know. My copy was lost when I moved. Also that same year I fought Pernell and Joe Louis. I need those tapes.

One of the fighters that fought Antoine Douglas was Qauron Love from Charm City Boxing."Q" as he is called had never fought in a tournament before. "Q" is still a novice with under ten fights. Some say the fight should have been stopped but looking at the video Q wasn't getting hit with a lot of clean shots. Q handled his business and even caught Antoine with a couple clean shots in the third round. Hats off to Antoine for a good fight too. As far as criticizing officials... there is a great need for officials. If there is a critic that thinks they can do a better job than the current group of officials I encourage them to become an official and contribute some of their personal time to the sport of amatuer boxing.

Roger,

Let me say this again and for the last time. The reason why the SRL winners were posted was because someone did the right thing and sent me the information.

If the info from the amateurs doesn't come to me, I can't post them. Unfortunately, the amateur folks need to keep better records.

hey gary, my bad, i found out today that zimmies dad sent you all the info about the silver gloves show. i should have known it was him after the way he wrote about zimmie and all the stuff he won. i will call u in the morning with all of the winners. we had not one single winner but our guys did well for being fairly new.

after reading this blog, and the comments posted - i felt compelled to note that previous posts from a reader named 'cd' is NOT the CD from DC Urban Sports.

Now, that that has been cleared up....

Good luck to Zimmie. I had the pleasure of meeting him and his dad this summer, and seeing Zimmie box. He truly is the best 10 year-old boxer I've seen. This kid lands punches like he's been boxing as long as he is old.

Good luck to all contenders!

I watched the Tez Fox and Rock Warden match. It looked like a Ricky Hatton/ Mayweather preview. If you only count Tez's left hand then the fight was close. All the overhand rights and spin outs made it hard for Rock to get off. I saw maybe Rock land 4 head shots if that. All in all it was a good match. Not too much holding and few penalties. I guess most fight watchers don't appreciate the jab.

Tony Magruder is a product of Prime Time. Andrew Counsel is his trainer. (former middleweight contender). If being a headbanger is a compliment then thanks, but Tony is not.

YouTube is free. All you need is computer knowledge. All gyms should do this. Sorry Juice.

I appreciate all the good things said about my son Tez. He is a good boxer, but boxing to me is based on your accomplishments. Right now the #1 junior around his weight would be Marquis Moore. (Bald Eagle or Headbangers)His accomplishments last year were National and International. They boxed a close match at a local show, but Marquis came out the victor. Keep up the good work. We will see you again.
A lot of Tez's opponents have been older than him, but he will see them again in 2009 when he turns 17. Good luck Tez in the Silvers this year. Last chance for romance!!! Again thanks for the support for Tez, and congratulations to all going to Georgia. We now become one team again. Until the Silvers is over, lets train hard fellas. We got a reputation in Georgia to up hold.

marquis moore can no longer handle the skill of tez fox. tez is too good of a boxer; he can now out box anyone in his weight class regardless of the age. he uses his brains and his boxing skills when he fights. thats why he beats all the rest with ease. he may not be the strongest fella out there, but he is the best right now. he has the best trainer, best grades, the height, he is the total package.
no one will beat him in the silvers. you heard it hear first.
he actually is winning by boxing bigger guys. he could have easly made 132 weight class. tez and zimmie will win it all and both will be world champions in the future.
