Lange-Cabell Rematch May 12 at Patriot Center!

It's official! Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon for the boxing card that will feature the rematch between Jimmy Lange and Fontaine Cabell that will take place on Saturday, May 12 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

Like the first battle on December 9 that ended in a 12-round draw, this bout will be for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Junior Middleweight title.

Tickets are priced at $25, $50, $75, $100, $125, $300 (Ringside) and $500 (VIP Ringside). The promoter of record this time around will be Ice Promotions, a new company headed by "The First Lady of Boxing" Jackie Kallen.

"I am excited to work with Jimmy Lange again. This is the fourth fight at Patriot Center that I have been involved in and I believe this one will be the best yet,” said Kallen in a press release. “I am very impressed with the Virginia boxing fans. They definitely support their hometown fighters."

The matchmaker for this card will be Washington, DC boxing hall of famer JD Brown.

More on this card as it develops.

Two more things

1: Tickets: http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/15003E6CC379C72D?artistid=1111417&majorcatid=10004&minorcatid=33

2: Digital, this "First Lady of Boxing" just out of curiosity, what exactly has she done? I'm not doubting it, just wondering (a "history lesson," if you will). Thanks.

Jackie Kallen is a very influential woman in the business. She came to fame as the manager of James Toney. Their business relationship was very explosive at times and was the basis for the movie Against The Ropes starring Meg Ryan.

She was the "Den Mother" during the first season of The Contender which is how she started working with Jimmy Lange. She has also worked with women's boxing.

There aren't too many women that are in the position Jackie Kallen is in the boxing world.

Gary do you know what condition Jimmy's hand is in? I know he had problems with it in their last match.

Anonymous said...

Lange = Nice kid, average fighter, never going to step up because when he does, bye bye Lange. This fight does nothing for his boxing career and only keeps his local fans happy.

Gary Digital Williams said...

Both guys hurt their hand in the last contest. Lange told me a while back that he was in good shape.

Anonymous said...

Did they get the show together. who's on the undercard.

Anonymous said...

luther smith who beat jimmy 2 times in the amateurs.

Anonymous said...

Luther that ko in the first round on espn.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, same guy. He was legally blind in that fight. I hope he looks better May 12th.

Anonymous said...

Ok so he can see now. This is a joke.Whats difrence between him and Corey. My bad he is one of JD fighters.Jd has not been involved in boxing since Joppy.

Anonymous said...

JD is a horrible matchmaker. Just look at the job he has done in the past and he needs to stop living off the fact he thinks he is in total business with Ray Leonard.

Anonymous said...

Looks like JD better get a bunch of ticket sellers on this upcoming bout.

Lange vs Cabell's first fight was boring and Cabell's record sucks. Look what another Contender did to Cabell.

Kaddour TKO 1.

Just another rip off of the general public.

Stop haiting. On Jd and Jackie. Your people are some loser all you do is use this site to talk bad about people get a life so what Johny is robbing the fans again. Its ok.jimmy is a club fighter we know that.

I don't see how you can criticize a show that hasn't even been put together yet.

No one criticized the last show at the Patriot Center on December 9. People enjoyed not only the Dean White-Dorin Spivey bout but also the first Lange-Cabell bout.

Let's see what the show has to offer before we pass judgment.

They might need Dean White again to pull this show off.

First of all ,to all non Washington ,D.C. non supporters. I have forgotten more about Boxing than any of you(scared to state your name) critics will ever know. AS far as Luther Smith he is not on the card, and there will be some local fighters fighting, and it will be an exciting card for all the paying customers. You back room critics who know nothing about Boxing are critizing the only fighter in this area since Ray Leonard who can put asses in the seats, so why not stop hating and come out and support Jimmy Lange because without him you are looking at shows with 200 people and only 75 paid thats whats hurting promotions in this area. All the Monday night quarterbacks making negative comments about our local fighters.J.D.Brown

Will agree will Gary Digital Williams, how can any of these Anonymous poster know who is going to be on the show? And now what the show is going to be like? If there was any credibility to that there would be a name to the post…

Jimmy Lange a club fighter to each is own on the views of a boxer ability as a fighter, Jimmy and the shows at the Patriot center put 5000 thousand + people in the seats.. How many club fighters do that? Then there’s JD brown as a bad match maker statement.. Once again no name to back that up with any credibility… Once again the show is not put together yet, but already being criticized?

Its to easy to make bad statements with no knowledge of what a event is going to be like before it happens… Fontaine Cabell a bad boxer? How many times have boxers lost a match that they should have won? It’s called being there at a 100% anything less at it will be a bad day… Happens all the time in boxing, of course there are the judges, but we won’t go there now…

Then we get the remarks about Jackie Kallen.. She does not need a face lift at this time; she is a good looking lady, pretty eyes… Maybe in a few years, but doubt she will.. She is about as real as it gets, she as done more to boxing then I care to know.. And did it has a Lady, a challenge in it self..

The show should be a good one like always at the Patriot Center, there should be some good matches put together…

Eddy P, keep on keeping on brother. Here's an anonymous poster with something positive to say. This WILL be a great show, like all the others. Jimmy's already in camp down in Vero
Beach and this time, he says, the fight ain't going the distance. Great blog Gary!

Lange has fought at The Patriot Center 4 times Ballard, Gilbert, Wilt, and Cabell. I didn't go to the first two shows but I went to the last two and they were really great shows. I'm looking back at the BoxRec results from those shows are there were some good fighters on those shows. They brought us some real regional talent in Larry Marks, Dorin Spivey, and Tom Wilt and local legends in Jimmy Lange, Purcell Miller, Dean White, and Boone Pultz. We even got a look at some good local prospects in Juan Carlos Robles and Andrew Farmer. I just hope Jackie Kallen and JD Brown use some real local talent. I read somewhere where they are going to have Mike Sawyer, Jaime Palma, and Mike Carrigan and you need guys like that to fill out a show, but to have those guys as your chief support to Jimmy Lange-Fontaine Cabell doesn't seem real strong. Those guys are 4 round fighters, and as I said before, you need 4 rounders on the show too, but not as a chief support to a Main Event. They've got to come with at least one strong 8 round fight to be the chief support. Last time it was the great fight between Dean White and Dorin Spivey. There was also a great 8 round fight between Larry Marks and Purcell Miller that was very exciting. I would say it's probably got to be Dean in there again to bolster the show. Somebody said that earlier and I am going to have to agree with them. What about a rematch between Dean White and Dorin Spivey? That's a fight fans fight anyway!

Anonymous said...

I second billy d's suggestion for a White-Spivey rematch. IMO their last fight was one of the best bouts I've seen.

Anonymous said...

It may be Palma vs. White I heard a little bird say.

Anonymous said...

I am availible for a super middle fight on that date. Let it be known. I come to rumble !!! Ron Krull

Dean White vs. Jaime Palma isn't bad, but it's not great either. Not as a featured bout. Dorin Spivey had a great record when he fought Dean White. And Dean White's record is pretty good too. Palma is 10 and 10 with limited knockout power. That would be a weak co-feature. Dean would stop Palma within 4 rounds. You've got to remember, this is the biggest boxing show in the Beltway region, and the new promoter has to come correct and put on a great show with some great matchups like the other promoter did for me to pay for those floor level seats. Throw in some young talent like Juan Robles, maybe Jesse Nicklow, Mike Paschall, Tim Coleman, Andrew Farmer and the like and you've got a great show. This may be offensive to some, but it's the truth, and Billy To The D always speaketh the truth. Jaime Palma, a 10 and 10 journeyman, Mike Sawyer, a very limited club fighter, and Mike Carrigan, untested with feather fists, don't measure up to the previous prospects I've just listed. Heck, if those guys are on the card, who's next? Perry Ballard? They've got to do something with this card and make some good matches and competitive fights. I know JD Brown is the matchmaker, but is he really in the loop of the young up and coming fighters, or is he living off the Sugar Ray Leonard legacy? Maybe JD can put Joppy on against Keith Holms or something like that. That's a nice matchup there. So far, other than Lange-Cabell, what you got? I'll give it some time and keep reading the blog to find out when new matches are made, but if it's Dean White vs. Jaime Palma (or something like that)as the main support, and an undercard filled with Sawyer and Carrigan (more like suspects than prospects) I'll probably just stay him and kick it with Mrs. D and a smooth Colt 45! OH EWE TEE Ya'll!

skinnyscott said...

Carrigan and Sawyer are exciting if nothing else. I don't think anyone would argue with that. As far as Joppy vs. Holmes, we've all been drooling for that for years. I doubt it will ever happen and that's a shame. Luther Smith would be a great 6-rounder. He's exciting as well and I'm sure he works with JD. I'll bet Andrew Farmer winds up on there if he's not on Joe's show down in Fishersville.

BTW, Ronnie Carrigan, "Irish" Mike Carrigan's little brother may be one of the best and most exciting amateurs to ever come out of VA. He is spectaculary talented and is a close friend of Gary Russell. The Russells and the Carrigans have been tight since back in the days of Shawn Carrigan, Gary Jones, Lionel Butler, and Tony Suggs. Gary "Digital" Williams for president!

Hey billy d

No disrespect to Jaime Palma, but Dean White would not fight Jaime but he might very well be on that card, against( once again a true and ranked contender). If the deal can be worked out.

Doug

My man Doug,

I can understand about him not fighting Palma. First of all, they are on two different levels, and secondly, it wouldn't be a competitive fight. Put Dean in against Ricasa again or someone from DC or Baltimore who is at a higher level. Or bring in a higher level guy from out of town. That makes sense. Palma makes sense against someone like Andrew Farmer or Kay Koroma.

What's Up? Not trying hold back any info on the fight, but it's not finalized so you don't have a fight unless it's on paper. I guess I'll see ya at the fight. If there is one?

Doug

A fighter that I would try to include on the fight would be Adam Seale for a 4 rounder. He has a big following. Both Andrew Farmer and Ronnie Carrigan are legneds in their own minds. They have talent but show boat too much.

Anonymous said...

Billy D,

White vs Palma not a bad fight but neither sell tickets.

Shoot some names out that can help fill the stands.

I am sure this blog is getting some talk time with promoters.

Dean White got old in his last fight.

What was up with how he was pawing with his left hand. That punch would not KO anyone.

Sloppy, Sloppy, Sloppy

Dean lost his last fignt in WV but would have won in VA.

to anonymous : Ronnie Carrigan is my younger brother and not only a great person but an excellent boxer. just won his third professional fight last Saturday . my guess is you would never say that shit directly to his Face, probably why your such a chicken shit coward that you can't even say who you are. side note :anybody who's at all familiar with the Carrigan family, even the women, would be careful of what they say about any of them. :)
