Gary Russell Jr. Featured in Washington Times!

The Washington Times has jumped on the amateur Beltway Boxing bandwagon with a nice story on top-ranked amateur Gary Russell Jr. in today's edition. The article, written by Mike Jones, is entitled "Dreams of Gold in Gloves" and the paper says it will be one of an occasional series on Russell as he tries to make the 2008 US Olympic Team.

As you probably know, Russell is ranked number one in the country at bantamweight.

In 2006, The Washington Post wrote a number of articles on some of the Beltway's finest amateur boxers including Russell, Franchon Crews, Dominic Wade and, most recently, Luke Runion.

Here is the link you can copy to the article:

Gary Allen Russel is one heck of a boxer. I think he will do great in Bejing. He boxes out of Hillcrest boxing gym and he is one of the top ten boxers in maryland. I cannot remember the last time he lost. Mr. McCann and Tom Browner do a great job with all them kids.
Trust me Gary Allen Russell will win a medal in the olympics 2008.

Sounds like a fine young man. If he's working with Tom Browner that is a tremendous thing because Tom Browner is a classy man who is a tremendous trainer! I can't say the same for all of those DC area guys but Tom Browner is right at the top of the list of one of the classy guys in boxing.
