A Beltway Boxer has been mentioned for a big contest on Saturday, April 24th at the Don Haskins Center at the University of Texas-El Paso in El Paso, TX.
Former WBO Super Welterweight champion Jaime Munguia was originally scheduled to take on Maciej Sulecki of Poland in the 12-round main event on that card. However, Sulecki withdrew from the bout after suffering a back injury in a sparring session last week.
Golden Boy Promotions is promoting this card and they are proposing a local boxer take Sulecki's place. That boxer is undefeated Temple Hills, MD middleweight D'Mitrius "Big Meech" Ballard, who is promoted by Golden Boy. Ballard (20-0-1, 13 KO's) has not fought since December of 2019 when he battled Yamaguchi Falcao to a 10-round majority draw in Costa Mesa, CA. Ballard has to be approved by DAZN, who will be streaming the bout.
Mungia (36-0, 29 KO's) last fought in October of 2020 and won a contest in Indio, CA when his opponent, Tureano Johnson, could not continue after suffering an injury to his lip in the sixth round.
