Undefeated Upper Marlboro, MD super featherweight Lamont Roach, Jr. will return to action on Saturday, May 4th when he battles Jonathan "Polvo" Oquendo of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The bout will be a feature contest on the Canelo Alvarez-Danny Jacobs card and will be shown on DAZN.
There will be a lot riding on this contest. The 10-round bout will be for Roach's WBO International Super Featherweight championship and for the vacant NABO Super Featherweight title. Reportedly, this will also be a WBO Eliminator bout as both men are ranked by the WBO -- Roach is second and Oquendo is fifth.
Roach (18-0-1, seven KO's) is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision win over Alberto Mercado on December 15th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This was the first defense of his WBO International title. Oquendo (30-5, 19 KO's) is a former world title challenger who lost a bid for the WBA Featherweight title to Jesus Cuellar by unanimous decision in December of 2015. Since that loss, Oquendo has won four straight bouts including an eight-round unanimous decision win over Deivi Julio Bassa on December 8th in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. Roach won his WBO International title with a sixth-round stoppage win over Bassa on July 20th in Cancun, Mexico.
