Upper Marlboro, MD super featherweight Lamont Roach, Jr. will battle Deivi Julio "El Cabo" Bessa of Monteira, Colombia for the vacant WBO International Super Featherweight championship on Friday, July 20th at the Grand Oasis Arena in Cancun, Mexico. The bout will be the main event on a card televised by ESPN.
This will be the second straight opportunity for Roach (16-0-1, six KO's) to gain this title. On April 19th, Roach battled Orlando Cruz to a 10-round split decision draw in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Roach has also held the WBC Youth Silver Super Featherweight crown.
Bassa (20-4, 12 KO's) broke a two-bout losing streak in his last outing, scoring a fifth-round TKO over Yohangel Romero on February 24th in Puerto Colombia, Colombia. Romero was 0-26 when he fought Bassa.
