Keyshawn Davis and Troy Isley won their opening bouts during the Strandja Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria today.
Davis, participating in his first international tournament, won a 5-0 unanimous decision over Dmytro Cherniak of Ukraine in a lightweight contest. Davis will take on Armenian Hrayr Shahverdyan in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Isley also won a unanimous decision in a middleweight bout, defeating Mariusz Gnas of Sweden. Isley will be in a rematch against Hebert Sousa of Brazil in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Isley defeated Sousa in the Continental Championships last year. The victory qualified Isley for the world championships where he won a bronze medal.
