Isley Upset In First Round Of Golden Gloves Competition!

It has been very difficult finding early results of the 2017 National Golden Gloves from the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette, LA.  The results we did find contain a huge shock for the DC Region team on Monday's opening day of competition.

Alexandria, VA's Troy Isley, who was one of the favorites to win the Beltway's first national championship since 2014, was upset in the first round of the 165-pound division by Joseph Hicks of Michigan.  Isley, who is ranked number two in the country at this weight class,  lost a 3-2 decision.

Germantown, MD's Wilfredo Avelar advanced to the next round of the 141-pound class with a 5-0 decision over Sir Tommy Sutton of Omaha, NB.
