Congratulations to Capitol Heights, MD's Gary Antuanne Russell who has officially punched his ticket to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil!
Russell won his quarterfinal bout today in Baku, Azerbaijan, defeating Obada Alkasbeh of Jordan by a 3-0 decision. The win placed him in the final four of the Olympic Qualifier. Russell needed to place in the top five to head to Rio. Russell continues in the competition Friday as he faces Richardson Hitchins, who competes out of Brooklyn, NY but has qualified for the Haitian Olympic Team.
Russell becomes the first Olympian from the Beltway since his brother, Gary, Jr. qualified in 2008.
