Tough night for Beltway Boxers at the Claridge Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ Friday night.
Baltimore, MD cruiserweight "Slick" Nick Kisner lost an eight-round split decision to Lamont Capers of Hawley, PA.
According to William Holmes of BoxingInsider.com, Kisner had moments in the bout where he was able to outwork his opponent, but he spent too much time during the fight with his head in his opponents chest and wasn’t throwing enough punches. Capers landed the harder shots in the bout and Kisner lost a point for holding in the seventh round. Kisner did get the decision on one scorecard, 76-75. However, the other two judges each scored the contest for Capers, 77-74.
Kisner's record falls to 16-3-1, six KO's while Capers broke a four-bout winless streak and is now 6-8-2.
Takoma Park, MD cruiserweight Willis "The Prophet" Lockett lost a six-round unanimous decision in a rematch against Chuck "The Professor" Mussachio of Middle Township, NJ.
Mussachio kept Lockett at bay with his jab and Lockett could not counter effectively. Holmes said Lockett did rock Mussachio with a right hand over the top in the fifth round but Mussachio won the bout with his jab and better footwork. Mussachio won by scores of 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56.
Lockett is now 14-17-5, five KO's while Mussachio, in his first bout in three years, is now 19-3-2, five KO's.
