Weights From DC -- Broner Loses Title On Scale!

Adrien Broner will walk into the DC Armory on Friday night without his WBA Super Lightweight title.  Broner lost the title on the scales during today's weigh-in at the Bald Eagle Recreation Center in Southwest DC.

Broner weighed in at 140.4 pounds (butt naked) while challenger Ashley Theophane weighed in at the super lightweight limit of 140 pounds.  Broner had two hours after the weigh-in to lose the four ounces he needed to.  Reportedly, he didn't even try to lose the weight.

Broner has been stripped of the title but the bout is still on.  If Theophane wins on Friday, he becomes the champion.  If Broner wins, the title will become vacant. is reporting that Broner will have to pay Theophane a portion of his purse.  No word on the details of that agreement.

Broner, a four-time champion in four weight divisions, faces this situation for the second time in his career.  In July of 2012, Broner was slated to defend a junior lightweight title against Vicente Escobedo but weighed in three and a half pounds over the 130-pound limit.  The title was stripped from Broner but remained vacant because Broner knocked out Escobedo in the fifth round.

Here is the rest of the scale watch:

Robert Easter 133 vs. Algenis Mendez 134

Gervonta Davis 131 vs. Guillermo Avila 131

Anthony Peterson 138 vs. Samuel Neequaye 139

Once again, the first bout is at 5:30 PM ET.  We will have podcast reports on the non-televised undercard as well as some interviews and a post-fight wrap-up show on the Boxing Along The Beltway Google App For Android as well as on the Boxing Along The Beltway pages on, and on YouTube.

If you’re in the UK then you can buy the PPV for £19.99.If you are in Australia, then you will have to pay around $50 to watch the fight online. In America, the fight is priced at as high as $99.99. Again, nobody would like to pay this much to watch a fight online, even if you’re located elsewhere.
