Superb Spring Of Beltway Boxing Coming Soon!

Every other year or so, BATB celebrates two of the busier months on the schedule in either the "Awesome April of Beltway Boxing" or the "Magnificent May Along The Beltway."  Normally, the month would consist of a large number of local cards and maybe one or two boxers on out-of-town cards that may be on national television.

In all my years of covering Beltway Boxing, I cannot remember a time where we have had a stretch of action that will look like the next month-and-a-half.  Not so much the number of local cards, it's the importance of those cards.  It's not so much the number of boxers in out-of-town bouts, it's the importance of those bouts.

Let's break down the stats of what is about to happen between April 1 and May 14:

Beltway Boxers will be on national television at least five times during that stretch -- that number could grow as more information comes in.

Two Beltway Boxers will be involved in world title bouts.

There will be three nationally-televised cards -- on three different networks -- that will come from one location -- The DC Armory -- during that time period.

There will be five local cards in all during that stretch.

When you add two of the most important amateur cards of the year -- The Washington Golden Gloves finals and Regional Golden Gloves finals -- this is an incredible schedule to say the very least.

So here it is -- as much as I can give you with the possibility of bouts changing without prior notice -- The "Superb Spring of Beltway Boxing."  

Friday, April 1 -- Adrian Broner defends WBA Super Lightweight title against Ashley Theophane (Spike TV) at the DC Armory, Washington, DC.  Gervonta Davis slated to be on that card in a televised bout and Kareem Martin also on that card.

Saturday, April 2 -- Washington Golden Gloves Finals at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.

Saturday, April 9 -- Jeter Promotions card at ABC Sports Complex in Springfield, VA.  Gerome Quigley slated to headline card.  Other Beltway Boxers include Drayvontay Speed-Rawls, Cobia Breedy, Francisco Bustos, Marq Johns, Edgar Torres.  Also, the Jeter Promotions debut of York, PA boxer Stevie Weimer.

Saturday, April 9 -- Potomac Valley Association of USA Boxing (PVA) hosts first day of local Junior Olympic Tournament at Rosecroft Raceway.

Saturday, April 16 -- Gary Russell, Jr. defends WBC Featherweight championship against Patrick Hyland at the Foxwoods in Mashantucket, CT (Showtime)

Saturday, April 16 -- Final day of local Junior Olympic Tournament at Rosecroft Raceway.

Tuesday, April 19 -- Immanuwel Aleem vs. Jonathan Cepeda in eight-round contest at the Sands Bethlehem Events Center, Bethlehem, PA (Fox Sports 1)

Saturday, April 23 -- Dominic Wade challenges Gennady Golovkin for multiple world middleweight titles at the Forum in Inglewood, CA (HBO)

Saturday, April 23 -- Lenwood Dozier on card at Police Athletic League, Elizabeth City, NC.

Friday, April 29 -- Luther Smith takes on Mark Rideout on card at Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ.  The bout is the first six-rounder for Smith.  Also, Alando Pugh battles Brendan Barrett in a four-rounder and Antonio Magruder will be in a four-round bout.

Saturday, April 30 -- World super middleweight championship doubleheader at the DC Armory -- Badou Jack defends WBC title against former champion Lucian Bute and James DeGale defends IBF title against Rogelio Medina. (Showtime)

Saturday, April 30 -- Thomas Williams, Jr. takes on Edwin Rodriguez in 10-round contest at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA. (Fox/Fox Deportes)

Saturday, April 30 -- Regional Golden Gloves Finals at Rosecroft Raceway, Fort Washington, MD.

Friday, May 13 -- Pro Boxing card at DC Armory (BET). Dusty Hernandez Harrison will headline.

Saturday, May 14 -- Shawstyle Promotions/Shabazz Promotions card at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, Timonium, MD.  Travis Reeves vs. Garrett Wilson, Tyrieshia Douglas vs. Anahi Torres.

Friday-Sunday, May 13-15 -- Regional Junior Olympic Tournament at the Main Street Gym in Salisbury, MD.
