Results Of Beltway Competition in Norfolk, VA!

A number of Beltway Boxers competed on a Ponytail Promotions/Sho Nuff Promotions card at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, VA on March 5.

Leesburg, VA lightweight Eric "El Torito" Hernandez lost by fourth-round TKO to Darrell Jones of Jacksonville, FL. The loss came under strange circumstances.  Hernandez suffered a cut near the right ear during the contest and as the bout entered the fifth round, the referee stopped the bout to ask the ringside doctor to look at Hernandez's face.  The doctor ruled that the bout should be stopped.  The bout went to the scorecards and Hernandez was declared the winner.

However, the Jones camp came prepared with a copy of the Virginia State boxing bylaws which say that in this situation (since there was no ruling on whether the hematoma was caused by a butt or a punch) the bout should not have gone to the cards and should have instead been ruled a stoppage.  The Virginia Commission reversed the decision and awarded a TKO to Jones.  Reportedly, the Hernandez camp will appeal.

Right now, Hernandez has the first loss on his record and he is now 6-1, four KO's.  Jones is now 4-14-1, two KO's.

Ashburn, VA super lightweight Seth "Killer B" Billups remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Corey McCants of Cincinnati, OH.  Billups won by shutout (40-36) across the board.  Billups is now 8-0, six KO's while McCants is 2-13-2, one KO.

Other results: Matthew Abregu of DC KO 1 over Arthur McCrow of Greensboro, NC.  Abregu is now 2-0, two KO's while McCrow is 0-2.

Alexandru "Spartan" Marin of Silver Spring, MD stopped Miguel "El Samurai" Del Valle of Manati, Puerto Rico in the third round.  Marin remains undefeated at 11-0, eight KO's while Del Valle is 10-25, two KO's.

In a rematch, Dodie Boy Penalosa, Jr. of Rockville, MD scored a third-round TKO over DeWayne Wisdom of Indianapolis, IN.  Penalosa won a six-round decision over Wisdom on November 21 at the Masonic Temple.  Penalosa is now 19-0, 15 KO's while Wisdom is 6-28-1, three KO's.
