During an interview on Showtime Championship Boxing at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH, WBC Featherweight Champion "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. of Capitol Heights, MD announced the date and opponent for his first title defense.
Russell will defend his title on Saturday, November 14 against Oscar Escandon of Ibague, Colombia. No word yet on where the bout will take place, however, the contest will be shown on Showtime.
Russell (26-1, 15 KO's) won the WBC championship on March 28 in Las Vegas, NV with a fourth-round TKO of Jhonny Gonzalez. Escandon (24-2, 16 KO's) is coming off a 12-round split decision loss to Moises Flores on April 18 at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA for the interim WBA Super Bantamweight title.
