Two Beltway Boxers have been added to a card on Saturday, July 11 at the Sundome in Tampa, FL that features a nationally-televised world title bout.
Locals Anthony Peterson of DC and Antonio Russell of Capitol Heights, MD will appear on the undercard against two opponents that Beltway fans may be familiar with. Peterson (34-1, 22 KO's) will take on Ramesis Gil (8-11-5, five KO's) of the Dominican Republic in a 10-round matchup.. Peterson was slated to fight on June 12 in Chicago. However, his opponent did not make weight. Peterson has not fought since August of 2014.
Gil has lost seven straight contests including a spirited bout against Mike Reed on September 7, 2013 at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD that was named the Beltway Boxing Bout of the Year. Reed won that bout by sixth-round TKO.
After only two bouts, Russell (2-0, two KO's) will leap into the six-round category when he takes on Jaxel Marrero of Puerto Rico (1-5-1) in a bantamweight contest. Russell scored a first-round knockout of Brandon Garvin on May 23 in Boston, MA. Marrero lost a four-round unanimous decision to Jantony Ortiz on April 4 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Prior to that bout, Marrero lost a four-round unanimous decision to Marq Johns on January 17 at the Washington Convention Center in DC. Marrero has also gone six rounds with Diego De La Hoya, losing a unanimous decision.
Both bouts will be on the undercard of the WBA Welterweight championship contest between titleholder Keith Thurman and former champion Luis Collazo. That bout will be shown on ESPN2. The undercard bouts may be shown online on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
