Beltway Boxers Boxing Coast To Coast December 20!

On Saturday, December 20, six Beltway Boxers will be in action in two locations -- one on each coast of the United States.

We've mentioned that four of the locals on the card will be competing at the Little Creek Casino and Resort in Shelton, WA.  We can now update this with opponents.

DC lightweight Anthony Peterson will appear on the Showtime televised-portion of the card when he takes on Yakubu "Black Mamba" Amidu of Los Angeles, CA by way of Ghana in a 10-round contest.  Peterson (34-1, 22 KO's) scored a first-round knockout over Edgar Riovalle in her last outing on August 9 in Brooklyn, NY.

Amidu (21-5-2, 19 KO's) participated in the Boxcino Lightweight tournament on February 21 in Laughlin, NV and lost a seven-round split decision to Chris Rudd.  The boxers were even on the scorecards after six rounds and needed a tie-breaker round to decide a winner.

In one of the 10-round bouts that may make the Showtime Extreme telecast, undefeated Largo, MD middleweight Dominic "Lights Out" Wade will battle former Contender champion Grady "Bad Boy" Brewer of Lawton, OK.

Wade (16-0, 11 KO's) is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision over Nick Brinson on June 27 in Las Vegas, NV.  Brewer, who won the second season of the Contender (32-19, 16 KO's), has turned his career around with two straight wins after losing five in a row.  Brewer won a six-round unanimous decision over Said Ouali on September 27 in Oklahoma City, OK.

The card will be a special affair for the Russell Family of Capitol Heights, MD.  "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. (24-1, 14 KO's) makes his return in his first bout since losing the WBO Featherweight world title opportunity to Vasyl Lomachenko when he battles Christopher Martin of Chula Vista, CA (28-4-3, nine KO's) in a 10-round contest.

However, eyes will also be on Russell's brother, Antonio,  who will make his pro debut on this card.  Antonio Russell, the "Golden Boy" of the 2013 National Golden Gloves, will take on Salvador Perez of Fresno, CA (2-6-2, one KO) in a four-rounder.

Meanwhile, back east at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY, there will be a 10-round rematch between Arlington, VA junior welterweight "The Mongolian Mongoose" Bayan Jargal and "The Hebrew Hammer" Cletus Seldin of Brooklyn, NY.

The last time the two men met on July 18 at the Paramount, the bout only lasted into the third round when Jargal (17-5-3, 11 KO's) suffered a cut from an accidental head butt.  Jargal has not fought since July 18, however the undefeated Seldin (14-0, 11 KO's) scored a second-round knockout of Rameses Gil on September 19 at the Paramount.

The co-feature pits Baltimore, MD light heavyweight Maxell "The General" Taylor against Joe Smith, Jr. of Long Island, NY in an eight-round contest.  Taylor (18-9-1, eight KO's) will try to break a five-bout losing streak that has come against boxers with a combined won-loss record of 76-3.  Smith (16-1, 13 KO's) has won 10 straight since suffering his only loss in August of 2010.
