PVA President Simms Removed From Office; Bell Becomes Interim President!

For the second time in less than four years, there is a major shakeup in the organizational chart of the Potomac Valley Association (PVA) of USA Boxing, the governing body of amateur boxing in Washington DC as well as Prince George's and Montgomery Counties in Maryland.

At a recent PVA Board of Governors meeting, Ronald Simms was stripped of his duties as president of the organization.  Tony Bell, Sr. will serve as interim president.  The PVA, according to information provided to BATB, cited a number of reasons for Mr. Simms's ouster including:

* Inability to raise funds for PVA during his tenure as president

* Coaching and training boxers in another Local Boxing Committee (LBC) to participate against PVA Boxers in local, regional and national tournaments

* Opening a second bank account for the PVA without the knowledge of or discussion with anyone on the PVA's board

*Sanctioning a recent amateur show in which four "exhibition" bouts took place and insisting PVA referees and judges work those bouts as training sessions.  USA Boxing no longer allows exhibitions.

Reportedly, Mr. Simms is protesting the meeting, calling it an illegal one and will look to file a grievance with USA Boxing.

Mr. Simms was named the president of PVA in April of 2012, almost two years after a similar Board of Governors meeting forced the ouster of then-president Jerry Jerome in May of 2010.  Mr. Jerome was relieved of his duties for violation of the PVA's voting process and conduct unbecoming a member of the PVA's board of directors.  Mr. Jerome's wife, Cecilia, who served as treasurer at that time, was also ousted for failure to file important documents with the PVA and USA Boxing.

No word yet on who will serve as permanent PVA President.

Tony Bell is a man of great integrity and impeccable character. Potomac Valley will be in good hands with Tony at the helm, no question.

On Feb 11 Simms sent out an e mail of a Level 1&2 coaches clinic this Sat 10am at Keystone gym. Since there has been a shakeup in the PVA BOD. Is this clinic still going to be conducted as planned?

Question I have is this. What are the qualifications to be elected PVA President? Is it truly necessary to have had championship boxers in any category be it jr, novice, or open and whatever weight class? A more important thing would be he/she has coached kids to box and build self esteem. But not necessarily to win or lose. Personally I think he/she would serve the roll better having a business background. Or even to have worked with a variety of different people with different backgrounds. Why would it matter if he/she coached a kid who won the Golden Gloves for example?

Juice says/ or is upset that he isnt the president of pva. Quote, ive been in the game longer than anyone around here. I make sure they shave. I film all the fights I can too get paid. I had an affair with Ray Leonard. I know all the rules in amatuer boxing. Tony Bell cant do what i can do. This is pure corruption around here. Take another vote.

I had a conversation with Tony Bell and he seemed punch drunk, and i really dont believe he has experience with boxing- fighting that is. We want Floyd favors to be the new PVA president. Vote Floyd Favors, a man with impeccable character and integrity.
