The first Beltway pro boxing card of 2014 is starting to come together. The Keystone Boxing card that will be held on Friday, January 17th at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD has five bouts we can announce.
One of the bouts will involve undefeated Waldorf, MD junior welterweight Mike "Yes Indeed" Reed. The 2013 Beltway Boxing Rookie of the Year begins his 2014 campaign with a six-rounder against Jorge Marquez of Phoenix, AZ.
Reed (6-0, four KO's) is coming off a six-round unanimous decision over Randy Fuentes on October 18 at Rosecroft. Marquez (4-1, two KO's) has not fought since scoring a second-round TKO over Tito Jones in April of 2012.
In what should be an interesting contest, undefeated Laurel, MD middleweight Demond "D Best At It" Nicholson steps into the six-round contests for the first time when he faces Timothy "The Boss" Hall, Jr. of Athens, GA.
Nicholson (5-0, five KO's) capped off a solid rookie season with a first-round knockout over Darryl Fields on December 14 at the Washington Convention Center in DC. Hall (7-15, four KO's) has lost three straight including a fifth-round TKO loss to Aaron Jaco on October 18 in Tampa, FL. Beltway fans may remember Hall's tough, six-round unanimous decision loss to Jessie Nicklow on September 28 at the Patapsco Arena in Baltimore, MD.
DC featherweight Marcus Bates (2-0, two KO's) returns to action with a four-round encounter against Jonesboro, Ga's Stephon McIntyre. Bates scored a fourth-round TKO over Carlos Alcala on September 7 at Rosecroft. McIntyre (2-2-1) battled to a four-round draw with Marq "The Monster" Johns on the December 6th Rosecroft card.
Interestingly enough, Johns of Fort Washington, MD (0-0-1) will face Alcala of Hillside, IL (0-3) in another four-round contest on this card. Alcala fought one time since the loss to Bates and he was stopped in the first round by Glenn Dezurn on the October 18th Rosecroft card.
The card will also mark the debut of District Heights, MD middleweight Dimitrius Nolan who will face Franklin Park, IL's PJ Cajigas (0-3-1). Nolan had a short amateur career (13 bouts) but has trained in Kentucky, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and Las Vegas.
More bouts are slated for this card.

The only competive fight will be McIntyre vs Bates. McIntyre has been in Fla training with Nate Cambell. Word is he trained for this fight like no other. He actually commented that he never even trained for other DMV bouts. If that's the case and he did that well, one can only imagine that this fight will be a barn burner well worth the coins. Give credit to Bates stepping up to the plate knowing that McIntyre is finally taking a fight serious.
Good to know a guy in Tampa has the whole beltway boxing scene figured already. no reason to go anymore now... thanks Ted!
teddy boy don't know shit but they trieing to build marcus bates. bad choice for bates early in carerr. bates might win but tuf ass fight. bad choice by team bates.
disagree with the post above. mcintyre is a solid fighter but if bates is going anywhere with his career, which i think he is, this is a fight you must take and not think twice. this mentality is why its so rare to see competitive local fights
Gary you forgot about Larry Recio vs David Rohn. How could you forget the only matchup between undefeated fighters on this card?
Because that bout is no longer on the card. Rohn got hurt in training.
Marcus might lose but I bet the car that he finishes on his feet. He is on tough SOB. He ducks nobody. Foes in the DMV duck him all the time.
Is Larry fighting someone else or is he off the card now?
They are still looking for opponents for Recio and Jarrett Hurd.
What about Tyrone Wright? I thought he was making return on this card.
American Stephon McIntyre and local Panamanian boxer Luis Rios are giving some tough sparring to the bantamweight world champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Panama's Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno (32-1-1, 11KOs). Stephon McIntyre is in camp getting ready for redemption at Rosecroft on January 17th. in the state of Maryland. He recently was given a draw with no training what-so-ever. His new trainer Nate says you can leave the judges at home. "We will not be using them".
Jarret Hurd looks
Like he may be the real deal. Bout ready to see him step up to showbox or espn2.
They are also looking for an opponent for Wright.
David Rohn, Larry Recio's original opponent, pulled out of the fight on Friday morning citing a back injury from his job.
Cesar Gonzalez, Tyrone Wright's original opponent pulled out of the fight on Saturday afternoon saying he got hurt in sparring & also has the flu.
We may have a replacement for Wright by Monday. Hurd & Recio could take longer but we'll get them done. Expect 8 fights on the card.
