Snow Drops Six-Round Decision in New York!

Capitol Heights, MD super flyweight Thomas "KO" Snow suffered what could be considered a major setback in his career.  Fighting for the first time in 18 months, Snow dropped a six-round unanimous decision to undefeated Nate Green of New Haven, CT tonight at the Resorts World Casino in Queens, NY.

Snow dropped Green early in the first round but then suffered two knockdowns during the contest in the fourth and sixth rounds.  Green won the bout with all three judges scoring the bout 57-54.

Snow is now 16-2, 10 KO's.  Green remains undefeated at 5-0, one KO.

Wow i can't believe it. I guess that long inactivity really hurt him. Keep your head up snow and focus on your career. An advised to you is that you need to fight more often or give it up.

You see this is the reason a lot of these DC bums get pimp slapped when they step up. Really look at Snow record and the other guy (5-0 with 1 ko) Crazy. DC Bums

At least Snow fought a legitimate opponent and not 40-something-year old guys who haven't won a bout since the past administration was in office in Washington. And, sorry, but the song and dance that guys are learning and getting better from beating perennial losers to a pulp really just doesn't work.

Snow has to fight more or expect to lose everytime. 2 KOs......wow.

4-0 is really a legitimate guy. This guy has been carried also but beat a guy with over 15 fights. SMH.

"... sorry, but the song and dance that guys are learning and getting better from beating perennial losers to a pulp really just doesn't work." Ain't that the truth!

So what does work? Because matching up against a undefeated boxer doesn't work well either.

I agree with the rest of the crew on this one. I am a huge boxing fan and have followed the sport closely for about 16 years. I hardly ever go to the fights around here because the fighters are matched so soft. I understand there is a real art to match making but you gotta fight some tough fights. If you need to keep fighting soft touches after about 14 fights there is something wrong.

However, everybody wants to see our boxers who are 3-0 or 4-0 matched tough early in their career. Not everyone should do that. I've been following the area scene for almost 30 years and I've seen careers ruined in that manner as well.

As I've said before, each case should be taken individually.

To build your fighter its good to have win able fights. This is not anything new. look up the records of you great Champions and you will see that they didn't start of fighting hard fights early in there career. However this area favors only a few fighters. Not all giving that start nor support. I've been around boxing for over two decade, and I like a few fighters in this area now like Mike Reed, "Tank" Davis, all the Russell, Nicholson who is from Laurel, MD, Roach JR and a few more. Also I've followed the kid they call the Baby Face Assassin Yurii Polishchuk. He and his team represented Washington,DC area well when he was an amateur. That's when I first saw him fight and that whole team won the 2012 Golden Gloves. The promoters and the commissioner Pat have turn him down from fighting guys the don't have winning records. They will not let him fight the 0-3,3-19 or 40 plus old fighters. He is a good young talent to see fight. I was there when he fought Kevin Womack in Baltimore and Yurii won every round but they called it a draw. There is report that he's fighting on Tony Jetter's card Feb 1th. They will only OK him to fight Charles Natal who is 2-0-1.

Gary, I understand your general position, BUT there is a BIG difference in our young boxers fighting guys who are tough and guys who are over 40, have lost so many fights in a row it is time to stop counting, and whose skills (the minimal amount that they once had) have deteriorated to the point where somebody has a good chance of getting seriously hurt. There are opponents out there who are at least credible, and we should give credit to the local boxers who fight them and to certain local promoters who consistently find these guys.

It's not easy finding those types of guys, they are at a premium and do get very costly as I found out over time. So you have to do what you have to do without blowing the budget. Most fighters here locally will fight those credible opponents but most tomes they are available for whatever reason.

Sorry it should read most times they aren't available.....

I wonder how much it costs to keep booking that TBA guy to fight Gary Russell ?

Brian, you have a very good track record of finding opponents, and it isn't always about the money. Cream puff opponents do not really do anything for a show. Most boxing fans do not want to pay to see lousy, one-sided fights. You at least bring in guys who have some degree of credibility.

I will stand by what I said: There is a BIG difference in our young boxers fighting guys who are tough and guys who are over 40, have lost so many fights in a row it is time to stop counting, and whose skills (the minimal amount that they once had) have deteriorated to the point where somebody has a good chance of getting seriously hurt.

Sometimes "cream puffs" saves shows. I would have loved nothing more than to put iron in with iron. But that is a logistical and finiacial impossibility most times.

Putting iron in against average metal that last has lost a little polish is okay. Tron versus old rust is just plain wrong. When Gary reports that an opponent like William Gill (who had half-way decent skills many years ago) had "shaky legs" before the bell even rang when he fought at the Convention Center recently, you have to wonder what is going on.
