This is an opportunity to begin making your 2014 Beltway Boxing plans a little early because the area will hit the ground running. There are already five pro cards on the schedule in the first two months of the year.
On Friday, January 17, Keystone Boxing will have its first show of the year at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD. Scheduled to appear on the card are Mike "Yes, Indeed" Reed, "Swift" Jarrett Hurd, Marcus "The Animal" Bates, Marq "The Monster" Johns and Larry Recio. Keystone is slated to have nine cards this year -- eight of those will be at Rosecroft and all eight of those cards will be on Friday nights, which were very successful attendance-wise in the latter months of this year.
We already know about the Saturday, January 25th Golden Boy Promotions card at the DC Armory featuring IBF Junior Welterweight champion Lamont Peterson defending his title against undefeated Dierry Jean. BATB has learned that Showtime will be carrying the card, which could mean that many of the undercard bouts, which are slated to feature a number of Beltway Boxers may be on the Showtime Extreme channel.
On Saturday, February 1 at Club One Fitness in Millersville, MD, Jeter Promotions will have a pro card featuring a title defense by WBC Fecarbox Middleweight champion Tony "Mo Better" Jeter. No word yet on who his opponent will be. Also slated to be on that card are "Slick" Nick Kisner, "The Big Ticket" Dwayne McRae, Sherman Artis, Jr. and Charles Natal.
Keystone comes back with a card on Saturday, February 15 at location that will be announced in the next few weeks. That event will be followed by a Maryland Boxing Club card at the Carroll County AG Center in Westminster, MD on Friday, February 21. The card will be headlined by Eldersburg, MD light heavyweight Mark "TNT" Tucker.
The first amateur card of 2014 is slated to be on Saturday, January 4 at the District Heights Municipal Center in District Heights, MD.
