Two Beltway amateurs captured World Golden Gloves titles this past weekend at the Waldorf Jaycees in Waldorf, MD.
Gary Antonio Russell won the 123 Pound championship with a decision over Chirino Sanchez of Team Mexico. Russell adds the world title to his local, regional and national Golden Gloves championships as well as the USA National title he captured this year.
Marquis Moore captured the 165 Pound title with a decision over Magdiel Cotto in Puerto Rico. Moore, a native of Fort Washington, MD who fights out of the US Army in Fort Carson, CO, won a National Golden Gloves title this year.
Felicitaciones (congratulations) to Team Mexico who captured three world titles and placed seven boxers in championship bouts on the second night of competition. Jose Burgos won a decision over Nico Hernandez of Team USA at 108 Pounds. Raul Curiel captured the 132 Pound championship by decision over Emmanuel Morales of Team Puerto Rico. Isidro Hiracheta won a close decision over Jermaine Franklin of Team USA at 201+ Pounds.
