Jackson, Crews Are USA Champs; Beltway Brings Home Six Titles!

Beltway Boxers Malik Jackson and Franchon Crews capped off a very successful event for local amateur boxing with their championship wins at the USA Boxing National Championships in Spokane, WA Saturday night.

DC's Jackson won the title in the Elite Men's 114 Pound Division with a 2-1 decision over Shawn Simpson of Chicago, IL while Crews of Baltimore captured the crown in the Elite Women's 165 Pound class with a 3-0 decision over Raquel Miller of San Francisco, CA.

In other action, Tiara Brown of Hyattsville, MD lost her bid for gold in the Elite Women's 132 Pound class to US Olympian Queen Underwood of Seattle, WA by a 2-1 decision.  Alexandria, VA's Dara Shen fell to Tiffanie Hearn of Oxnard, CA 3-0.

BATB has also received word that Lamont Roach, Jr. has been named the Outstanding Youth Male Boxer of the tournament for his performance in the 132 Pound Division.

Beltway Boxers won six national titles during the event.  Congratulations to all who participated!

I didn't receive information about the Belfast-Beltway Boxing classic (in other words, that it was actually happening) until Thursday and I had other commitments.
