Guerrero Falls in Seven to WBO Champion Quillin!

Salisbury, MD middleweight Fernando Guerrero lost his bid for the WBO Middleweight title tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Champion Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin knocked Guerrero down four times en route to the seventh-round TKO victory. Two of the knockdowns took place in the second round where Guerrero looked almost completely out.  Guerrero did fight back and did have an impressive sixth round.  However, he could not avoid Quillin's right hand.  After two more knockdowns, the bout was stopped at 1:30 of the seventh.

Guerrero falls to 25-2, 19 KO's while Quillin remains undefeated at 29-0, 21 KO's.  Barry Hunter, who once trained Guerrero, was in the corner.  Guerrero's regular trainer, Virgil Hunter (no relation), was in England working Amir Khan's corner against Julio Diaz.

I agree with the first 2 comments. He goes from Rick and dis him then to Hall and dis him, to Barry and dis him, then to Hunter and Hunter dis him. lol. Oh, also for taking so many easy fights just to build up your record to end up KOed. What goes around comes around.

Gary Fight News said Guerrero was knocked down 2 times in the third. Which round 2nd or 3rd ?

It was the second round. Fightnews was mistaken.

Nobody is saying Barry is the greatest but what did u expect him to do in such a shirt time Virgil hunter went with the khan fight cause he made more money and left Fernando high and dry

Thanks for clarifying the 2nd round knock downs.

Some amatuer trainers should stay in the amatuers.

Barry Hunter is a great cheerleader, nothing more nothing less.. He's simply a cheerleader,he only get good results when his fighter is stronger & better.. If not they lose, because he can't tell them what to do,& he diffenantly can't show them in the gym... So if your a fighter & you want some boasters & cheerleaders go join the Headbangers that's what the program made of, but you can get strong there now wit there new weights & equipment... Also the play station routine they do, but in boxing skills win... Not how strong you are!!! Pro's need Professional coaches not cheerleaders!!!

Guerrero wasn't going to win this fight anyways

i dont if know now if barry teaches, but i know a few years back he actually taught strategy and skills and i can sure tell you the petersons did no know how to box when he got them but he sure taught them too, and as the last poster said you sure better be strong if you are going to box, yes he may be a cheerleaders but he sure gives dam great instructions of how to win when hes in your corner, but at the end of the day its still up to the fighter to execute, and Fernando could not do that especially with having a trainer who did not train him for this fight, at least when he was at head bangers he kept his hands up, it seems like wherever he went to try to change his style, obvious bad mistake

No disrespect to Guerrero but, Peter Quillen was entirely to strong and hit to hard for Guerrero. This fight was clearly a mismatch. DMV fighters please be aware that it's not a game when you step up the competition. Virgil Hunter or Barry Hunter couldn't help Fernando Guerrero in that fight. Quillen is a world class fighter. As for Barry Hunter he is relevant in boxing and we'll just have to wait and see if he can elevate another world champion. Guerrero has to stay strong mentally most importantly and physically. He's got time to recover. Lets continue to support Barry Hunter, Guerrero
and all fighters and trainers in the DMV.

Fernando is in an awkward position, not just bcs of changing trainers, but his body composition. He's a small 160lber as we all noted the size differential between him and Peter, but that seems to be his natural weight class. There is not much fat on him and he looked depleted at his only 154 fight with Brewer. So, that puts him between a rock (too small for 160) and a hard place (too depleted at 154)... Got much love for him and respect for going for it!!

Hi Gary,

Did Guererro not have more of a boxer-puncher style back in the day? He looked tense and kept loading up against Quillin who is a pure puncher. It's almost like Guerrero threw his boxing skills out the window and tried to go blow for blow.

He was out classed th e same the way alot of fighters are after they build there record up.But yes Barry couldn't help him at all but Barry is bum ass trainer that had some good fighting kids that want make it at all so I hope they are saving there money up because a rainy day is coming its not about Barry but he will not have another world champion in the next 2 years but will have alot of contenders lol He's a theif a modern day Burney Maddorf

Barry Hunter was named the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Trainer of the Year in 2007. No one accused him of being a hype man then.

To answer another question, Guerrero was more of a boxer-puncher in his amateur and early pro days. As many have said, however, Guerrero came up against a bigger and stronger opponent on Saturday.

You saying Barry is not a good trainer is like Dan Rafael saying Rigondeaux is a boring boxer. It just shows how unknowledgeable you are of our science...

That should've been Boogie award in 2007... Boog the real trainer at Headbangers, Barry just takes all the glory... Since he take all the glory, it's a must he take the heat when his fighters lose... The cheerleader that he is... Boog is just so humble, he let Barry have the spotlight.. But real talk Boog is the man behind there fighters success!!

To the last poster about boogie u ain't never lied but he will get his spotlight with his son sad it has to rake this long but that's life
